In today’s beehive,

  • Goldleaf is looking for a picture of a real bride wearing a Pronovia’s Joana dress.
  • Reney wants to know whether it’s better to have a small, quick standing ceremony at her reception venue, or to have guests drive from a separate ceremony venue to the reception venue.
  • noah is looking for church friendly bridal shower games.
  • newly-engaged wants to know which month you think it’s more likely to rain in Orange County: April or November?
  • Sarah wants space advice on rectangular vs. round tables for her small venue.
  • Style Graduate is looking for sites/books on writing a toast.

See the most recent beehive here. To add your question to the beehive, leave a comment and we’ll update this post to include your question.

I am a bridesmaid in my friends wedding which will be october 7 of this year. Her bridal shower is on the 2nd of september and the maid of honor, which is also my cousin, has asked me to be in charge of games. What kind of bridal shower games are there considering there will be older women from our church attending and our pastors wife?

my fiance and i just got engaged a couple weeks ago. we went to look at our first venue (in Orange County) and fell in LOVE! they have two dates available. april 21, 2007 or november 17, 2007. i figured november would be better. less chance of rain and more time to plan even if it may be a tad chilly for an outdoor ceremony + reception.

my parents are pushing for april. they want us to get married sooner than later. they say it’ll be too cold in november and that it’s more likely to rain in november than april.

i don’t know if less than 8 months is enough time to plan. We’re going on a 2 week vacation this OCT to Korea, Thanksgiving, Christmas + NYE. All in between now and April 21st.

which date would you guys pick?

in Orange County, is there more chance of rain in April or November?

Newly_engaged: I am from OC, and I definitely think there is more rain in April than in November.
Can I ask what venue you guys looked at? I am always curious about what kind of venues are in my own backyard. :)

newly_engaged: i live in OC and i think it’s more likely to rain in April than in November. however, weather is so unpredictable. i would def invest in a plan B (like tent rentals) as your date gets closer and are more certain as to what the weather will be that day.

I would say it’s more likely to rain in Orange County in April.

newly engaged - its more likely to rain in april than november in the oc, but the weather has been so unpredictable the past 2 years, it’s hard to say! my moh got married thanksgiving weekend - it rained on thanksgiving, but cleared up for the most beautiful saturday on her wedding.

and i think 8 months is plenty of time to plan!

Noah: The shower I just threw for my sister had little kids and older ladies, so I had to make sure our games were appropriate. We played How Well Does the Bride Know the Groom (where the bride had to chew a piece of gum for everyone she got wrong), Bridal Bingo & Bridal Scattergories. I made all the templates for Bingo and Scattergories, so if you need some help email me and I can send them to you!

Good luck with your shower! Everyone loved the games at ours :)

reney - i think the ceremony is actually the most important, symbolic part of the wedding even though it’s the reception that lasts hours. i would have your guests drive the 15 minutes rather than having a quick ceremony at the reception venue. i’m sure they won’t mind. =)

newly-engaged - i’m planning for a november 2007 wedding in the OC, too! i think it’s more likely that it will rain in april. however, i have been to a november wedding for the past 2 years in a row, and both times it rained sometime during the reception (both were indoors), but the outdoor ceremonies were beautiful.

i got married on april 24, 2002 in chatsworth… and it didn’t rain… two weeks before it did… if i was to take a guess… i would say that there is less chance of rain in november…

i do agree with mrs. bee… 9 months is plenty of time…

i think guest would appreciate sitting during the ceremony more than driving to two locations :)

April or November…?
I would have to agree with Mrs. Bee, it’s been really weird lately… so the chances are similar for both months.
But it probably won’t. It’s cali. Plus, even if it did, it would just sprinkle… and believe it or not, it makes for BEAUTIFUL pictures… I’m hoping for my wedding day to be overcast actually… It;s in two weeks^^

My engagement was exactly six months… And it was plenty of time, in fact, I was really bored during some of the months…

reney— Will there be a cocktail hour for the guests while you take pictures? Sometimes the driving over time is useful for photo purposes…

Reney

Thanks for sharing, everyone! And yes, there’s going to be a cocktail hour right after the ceremony at the reception hall. So I guess food would be the motivation to get people there without thinking too much about the drive over :p

i am opting for rectangular tables, although not to save space. i just think it looks cool, and is different. i’ve been to so many weddings with round tables. i’m not sure about whether it saves space…it would depend on the layout of the reception place.

Reney - It all depends what your preferance is. I think we’ll probably end up having two different venues. It’s your wedding, and I doubt your guests will care about a small drive. :)

Reney, I agree w/Mrs. Bee (comment #9). Besides, 15 min drive is really a quick drive. So if I was your guest, I wouldn’t mind.

Newly-engaged, congrats on your new engagement. As for your question, check out this tool…

I think I actually found this on Weddingbee a while ago. And now I have it bookmarked. I agree that the weather has been so weird in Cali for the past 2 yrs, but I still like to see what the weather is like historically in certain time of the yr.

noah - this may not be the answer you want, but you could skip the bridal shower games, and just have a reagular get-together. I’ve hosted and planned three bridal showers, and I’ve never had games, and everyone always had a lovely time. :)
