In today’s beehive,

  • Linda is wondering whether it’s common to use 2 songs for the processional.
  • ncmz just got married and is wondering how she might scrapbook all her wedding cards, and what kind of glue she should use.
  • M wants to use wax seals on her save the dates and wants to know how they hold up through the postal process.
  • JB is looking for websites other than Chelsea Paper where you can order fully printed invitations for wedding-related events.
  • ncmz wants to know where you cleaned your gown in nyc and how much you paid.
  • Amber’s tent is 54 feet long. Should she get a 25 foot or 50 foot aisle runner?

Hi There, I want to get readers opinion on this dress. Is it too casual for an evening wedding (sat)?

ncmz, whatever glue you use, make sure it is acid free. Whenever you scrapbook, all your materials should be acid free to prevent yellowing. Any craft store or scrapbook store will sell photo splits that are basically pre cut pieces of double sided tape.

Mrs. Bee says:

Linda, it’s actually more common to use two songs for your processional - one for the wedding party, and another one for the bride. So go ahead and use the two songs you love.

ncmz, ditto what izzy says. acid free glue is available at any craft store and will not ruin your cards. i think scrapbooking them is a wonderful idea! maybe you could even add a picture of the guest beside the card from the wedding.

hannah, i’m going to turn your question into a poll. :)

m - we used wax seals on our save the dates and had them hand cancelled. the new yorkers said they received them in perfect condition, some cali people received them cracked. :( we made our own wax seals and applied them with a hot glue gun. you might try those premade wax seals to reduce crackage.

good luck everyone!

I have a question for all the other Bees … does anyone know websites, other than Chelsea Papers (www.chelseapaper.com), where you can order fully printed invitations for wedding-related events like bridesmaid luncheons, rehersal dinner, post-wedding brunch, etc.?

Katie says:

I’ve only tried wax seals a couple of times–I made them the old-fashioned way, melting the wax directly onto the envelope and stamping it with my monogram before it dried. I didn’t bother to have it hand-cancelled and my recipient said the envelope just had a purple smear on the back where the seal was–so I’d definitely recomment hand-cancellation.

Beyond that, I plan on using wax seals for my inner envelopes (I know you’re not supposed to seal them but I looooove wax seals and don’t want them to mar the outer envelopes) and just sealing the outer envelopes in the traditional way (Remember Susan, buy a sponge!).

ncmz says:

M: I used wax seal for my invitations and went through hand cancelling. No problem.
JB: did you try carlson craft, cheap & cute.
I also have another question for Mrs. living in NY: where did you clean your gown?? They are asking me insanely price: $700+. Is that normal?? Where should I look??
TIA

Miss Daisy says:

M, i have sent regular letters with wax seals and the hand cancelling only protects them if they aren’t routed through other machines *after* the hand-cancelling.
you might also try flexible sealing wax, to potentially avoid cracking.

ncmz - i used j scheer because i didn’t want to mess around with my gown. the bridal atelier where i bought my dress gave me a 10% off coupon. i think i paid around $500- $600 with the discount?

that’s about average for the higher end cleaners.

M says:

Thanks ladies for all of the wax seal suggestions. As much as I would like to do them by hand, I think I will give the pre-made ones a shot!

Amber says:

I have a question: If the whole tent for our ceremony is 54 feet, how long of an aisle runner should I get? 25ft, or 50? 50 seems really long.

13.
peachy says:

definitely get a 50 ft one.

nothing looks worse than an aisle runner that stops too short - especially since yours would stop 25 feet too short.

that would be just as bad as your groomsmen wearing cropped pants with a tuxedo jacket.

and 50 ft should be perfect for 54 foot tent - the “front” of the tent where the bridal party will stand probably won’t be all the way to the edge of the tent, so the actual length of the aisle will probably be a little less than 50 feet.

14.
Amber says:

Peachy, you make a good point, thank you. I guess 50ft would be right, then.

Miss Ant says:

ncmz, here’s a listing of gown cleaners in nyc
http://nymag.com/weddings/listings/gowncleaners/

You can also check out cheaper options like
http://www.wedclean.com
or http://www.gownpreservation.com/index.htm
(which is the kit that RK Bridal endorses)

shoo says:

JScheer’s quote for me was $600, but they only asked who designed the dress, which I found a little suspicious. So I ended up using Chris French Cleaners (in the nymag listing posted above). They charged me $400 to clean and preserve boxed.

hi linda…i like (and used) 2 songs for the processional. like mrs bee mentioned - one for the wedding party, and one for the bride. i feel like it’s a good way to let your guests know that the bride is entering. just make sure the dj knows that the whole song probably won’t play out for the wedding party processional, unless you are getting married somewhere that has a long ceremony aisle. :)

18.
ncmz says:

Thank you ladies! I’ll shop around and let you know.

Issue with booking venue. My FI and I visited our choice of venue three weeks ago. Even though, our wedding is not for another 18 months, these venues book up fast around our area. We weren’t greeted by the person that I have been in contact with prior to meeting. They promised to send us a contract by the end of the week–three weeks ago. I contacted them beginning of this week, and they promised to send us the contract ASAP. It’s been 3 days, and we still haven’t received the contract. Do we have the right to complain or vent to them about their delay? Can we ask for a discount in the fee for the wait? I know we can always look for another ceremony only site, but that means shoving out another 2K, which is way over our budget. This venue is just for our ceremony since our reception will be held at a Chinese banquet restaurant. What to do?

C - I’m sorry, because this is not really a direct answer to your question, but I went to the most absurd tailor yesterday and I want to make sure that nobody on wedingbee goes to him. I was looking for a tailor near my office to alter a bm dress I have to wear, and found some positive comments about Flair Tailors on 46 street. I called, they were nice, I went, they were rude and ultimately could not help me. I can’t really explain how ridiculous it was — he berated me for buying a dress too large, when he learned I wanted it hemmed he literally said “buh-bye, I don’t do that,” and when I asked for a referral to someone who would, he yelled “what, you don’t have the yellow pages?”

I am going to try PinPoint Bridal on E. 84th street. They were extremely helpful on the phone, sound not too pricey, and got good reviews from Knotties. I’ll let you know!

C says:

lol…thanks for the warning and I look foward to hearing about PinPoint

C- I’m going to be a BM in a few weeks and I brought my dress to G&G Cleaners: (http://www.newyorkmetro.com/nymetro/bony/services/2005/11361/)

I’m going to pick up the dress today, so I’m not sure how it will turn out, but a lot of people have posted about them on other forums, and the lady seemed to know what she was doing. She’s taking in the entire dress (the stupid bridal place got me one size too large) and hemming the skirt for $65!

24.
C says:

Kickin~ so how did the dress come out?
