Open Question: Gown Preservation

August 17th, 2006 @ 11:08 am by Mrs. Bee

I have a question regarding wedding gown preservation. I found that bridesave.com is running a $99 special until 8/31. I own a sample gown and am thinking about purchasing the kit first, getting dress alterations, then sending the gown for cleaning before my wedding next spring. After searching on google I found a couple of sites offer $99 gown cleaning. If that price is the norm I would probably just hold off ordering the kit. What are the experiences for other brides? Here is the link if anyone is interested,

Thanks!

Yvette

i got my dress cleaned, sewn (people stepped on my dress & it ripped the trimming) & perserved in a acid-free (tissue) box @ our drycleaners for about $300.00 bucks… $99.00 that’s a great deal… just make sure it’s acid-free and sealed :)

Are you planning on cleaning the gown after the alterations and then after ceremony before you preserve it? If the preservation box includes cleaning then its a good deal. I was looking into that too, a little while ago and I think it was about the same price. You can call them and ask if you should just purchase it now and use it later.

I’m not getting married til next may and i got my dress in April. So I got it cleaned and then will have it altered, then steamed. And i will get the box for it after the wedding and I get it cleaned again. Good luck!

I have a sample sale gown, and the bottom was all soiled. I got it cleaned at a local dry cleaners in Fort Lee - they got everything out. It was $150.00. I was so anxious that they could not get the stains out - it was very bad. I’m glad that I didn’t pay $550 for the cleaning, as quoted by Madame Paullette and $400 at Cameo Cleaners. If your dress is not so soiled, I would say definitely try a local dry cleaners you trust. Then, you don’t have to worry about the shipping and losing your dress.

I used J. Scheer but that was anything but cheap - $800 (and I had no beading!) I am pretty sure it was an unnecessary expense, but as my mother said, I paid too much money for this dress for some dry cleaner to mess it up! Oh well.

Thanks all for the feedback! I looked at the website’s FAQ and it states that cleaning, acid free tissue box and shipping both ways is included. As long as they don’t charge me extra or too much for a particular stain size of a pinky nail (that the seller didn’t disclosure ^_^ ) it sounds like a great deal. thanks again!

Yvette =)

I had mine cleaned and preserved through the Affordable Preservation Company for $129 and it came out great! The price included shipping and 3 accessories. My dress was totally filthy on the bottom and they got it completely clean.
