Open Question: Where to Buy Dresses?

August 18th, 2006 @ 10:05 pm by Mrs. Bee

Hi, I’m trying to help my friend research dresses (for her dress # 2). So far I’ve browsed on Nordstrom, Saks, Bloomies, and weddingbee to see if there are some links to really nice dresses. The problem with the dept stores are that the dresses are not particularly special or elaborate enough for what she wanted for her reception dress.

Any suggestions for stores in New York that would specialize in that type of dresses?

Thank you!!!

What about Neiman Marcus or Bergdorfs - also JCrew (don’t laugh) has some special ‘wedding’ dresses…you should check it out!! HTH

She can also try shopping at bridesmaids stores and order any style that comes in white or ivory.

Check out http://www.chicbridal.com

They have a lot of sexy silk gowns that are VERY reasonable. I’ve also heard great things about the quality.

I agree with Miss Ant. Try bmaid stores. We are going out for cocktails after my wedding & I purchased an ivory dress from a bmaid store.

QUESTION: my dress is silk taffeta. is it ok to have my BM’s dresses in a different material or would it not look right? (i.e. in pictures, satin is much shiner tha taffeta…)

I got my wedding dress at Angelo Lambrou in the East Village (near 7th and Avenue A). They also have off the rack cocktail dresses. It is a wonderful little shop, full of unique and colorful dresses.
