A Bouquet of Tea Leaves

August 21st, 2006 @ 12:37 pm by Mrs. Violet

I do not plan on doing normal flower centerpieces since Westbury Manor is known for their beautiful gardens, I’m going to use that to my advantage. Take a look at these dual purpose arrangements - they’re actually handtied tea leaves called blooming tea. Add boiling water to a glass pot, and watch it magically grow into a pretty & exotic flower. Great conversation piece. I read on Martha’s site that it’s been used at weddings. What a neat and unqiue idea. Admire it, talk about it and drink the tea after.

According to Adagio, blooming tea leaves are “meant to delight your eyes as well as taste buds, these awe-inspiring “display teas” unfurl when added to water, revealing delicate flowers hidden within. The practice of hand-sewing leaves into “blooming teas” is an age-old Chinese art form that dates back centuries.”

Adagio sells 10 overwrapped teas for $10. Not bad at all!

Tea

that looks…interesting. haha, actually, i’m kind of scared of the blooms. so would people actually drink the tea later? or would it be mostly for show. that is definitely a unique idea, though if you bloomed them too soon, wouldn’t the vases be murky by the end of the reception if no one drinks them. hmm. i may just be overthinking this.

Those things are very popular at Asian cafes/tea & dessert places right now. Based on what I understand, they do bloom right before your eyes! I thought about using those as favors… they’re very cool and pretty!

I’ve seen them in real life in a mug, just bloomed. They aren’t very big-table-filling-blooms. A totally cool addition to the menu/decor at the wedding, but I doubt they can be a stand-in for a ceterpiece, if that’s what you had in mind.

Thanks “a” for the info. It might be nice to have a few on the table - but maybe these make better favors or best for a smaller dinner party.

TheBrideToBe - I don’t think it gets very tall.. or big.. but it definitely looks cool.

Thanks, gals. I was hoping that it would be center-piece material but it sounds too small. It was a fleeting idea.

Actually there is a better choice of blooming tea for wedding session. It’s a “heart shape” blooming tea which packed individually.
Pls see the link below.

You must love it! It’s made by high mountain green tea and it’s only produce during spring time, once a year. Hence it’s limited edition as well!
