Officiant and Flower girl

August 21st, 2006 @ 10:07 am by Mrs. Poppy

Both Mr. Poppy and I are so blessed to have our officiant as one of our friends. He’s actually in ministry school but still works for the same company as my fiance. We knew from the very start that we would ask him since he has been such an encouragement and great friend.

Then a couple of Sundays ago, I saw him and his daughter. She is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. Blonde hair, blue eyes and soft curls. She looks like an angel and I couldn’t resist and asked our officant if she’d be our flower girl. They both agreed and said they are very excited.

We are thinking about this dress.

It matches the sash I have in my dress, and I figured that I would have her wear latte or champagne. Latte would match the bridesmaids and champagne would match my dress.

I’m having my flower girl walk down with one of my groomsmen since one of my bridesmaids is actually playing the piano during the ceremony. Hopefully I can find someone to play the last piece so the GM and BM and my officiant and his daughter can walk out together. I am pretty sure my little flower princess will be holding a small bouquet.

I read before on weddingbee how people bought coloring books, activity books and picture books about being a flower girl. I’m thinking about doing all of that, and possibly even giving her a cute teddy bear wearing a white dress so she can have a toy to play, dance and hug during the wedding.

What are you ladies getting your flower girl? Are you having her throw petals or is she holding a bouquet?

I thought of that dress, too. My flower girl’s mother didn’t want to get it b/c she said you have to do a lot of fluffing to it and doing that all night was not realistic. They picked another dress that is similar with the sash but does not have the tulle bottom. Have your FG try it on to see if she has the same problem. Ours is tall and slim so that may have something to do with it.

Since my flowergirls are too young to know how to throw petals and carry a small bouquet, I’m having my flowergirls (aka bridesgirls) carry a pomander. I plan to make them out of silkflowers so they aren’t tempted to pull out the petals. And, they are gong to be escorted by a groomsboy. I’m not having a ringbearer, so a groomsboy it is.

same comment on your website:

flowergirl gifts should depend on how old they are, my little niece is 3 and she LOVED her strawberry shortcake doll (matched the pink and green wedding theme) from a friend’s wedding, or an older girl might want the wedding Barbie, Carebears, etc…ask her dad what character/cartoon/story she’s into!

You may want to have your flower girl sit with her parents during the ceremony. Kids aren’t that good at holding still, and are excellent for stealing the spotlight.

I have a 9 year old flower girl and I’m thinking about just having her hold a small bouquet.. this way she can keep it.

We got those dresses for our flower girls too! We are having our FGs toss freeze-dried petals…not sure if I am going to have petals already thrown on the floor before the ceremony however…

We have two flower girls, both under the age of three. To avoid the issue of playing with a small bouquet and the issue of ‘throwing’ petals around, we have arranged for our florist to decorate two small teddy bears with our wedding flowers. This will give them the flowers for the wedding and a nice bear to play with and keep.
