About Mrs. Caterpillar

I <3 Decadent Southern Luxury

August 22nd, 2006 @ 1:37 pm by Mrs. Caterpillar

A few days ago, Mr. Caterpillar’s mama and I were having a conversation with someone about the wedding’s theme. Up to this point, I was unaware that weddings had themes. Or if weddings did, indeed, have themes, my own wedding was properly theme-less. I just happen to like . . . stuff. And lots of it. Especially if that stuff is vintage lace and gilding. After looking at all the little things that Mr. Caterpillar’s mama and I had painted/glued/rolled into cones, it was determined that my wedding’s theme is Decadent Southern Luxury.

I am SO on board with that theme. See, e.g. the pagoda.

Mr. Caterpillar’s mama created this amazing pagoda originally as a cake topper. It is approximately 2 feet high, so it’s been redesignated to become our head-table centerpiece.

She watercolored the paper, cut and glued the structure together, then added decoupage for strength. She decorated the lower tiers with paper hydrangea and a good quantity of french ribbon. I plan on keeping it on permanent display.

And this

is the photo tree which will stand near the guest book, holding pictures from our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings. It started out as a plain whitewashed wire photo peacock. Then Mr. Caterpillar’s mama added the decadent southern luxury with crocheted lace, more hydrangea, glass beads, and charms.

See what nine generations of living in the French Quarter will do for style?
