Top Flickr Cameras

Are you in the market for a snazzy new camera for your honeymoon? I certainly am! :)

Ok so I’m not actually going on a honeymoon, but I’ve been in the market for a digital SLR camera for a long time. Mr. Bee bought me a Sony DSC-T1 for Christmas right before our wedding, and it served us very well on our honeymoon and since. I’ll still use my ultra compact Sony for convenience, but I want a big bad camera to record special events like birthdays, weddings, and vacations.

Flagrantdisregard lists the top 100 cameras being used on Flickr every single week, so you can see what cameras people are actually using right now. This is a great way to scope out what’s hot if you’re in the market for a digital camera.

Here’s the top 10 list for the week of August 21st:

1. Nikon D50
2. Nikon D70
3. Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT
4. Canon EOS 20D
5. Canon EOS 350D Digital
6. Nikon D70s
7. Cybershot
8. Canon PowerShot S2 IS
9. Canon EOS Digital Rebel
10. Nikon D200

Are you in the market for a new digital camera? What camera do you currently use?

Canon Powershot G2! I got it over two years ago, so it’s not tiny like the ones out today, but it’s incredibly high quality. I LOVE my camera.

my former boss loves photography and knows a lot about it. this is the top camera on his list now, so much that he’s planning to sell his current three to get this:

I’m currently using the canon powershot sd500, it has 7.1 mega pixels and would love to upgrade to a SLR camera.

i just bought my baby, a canon powershot sd600, in july and i love it. it’s so tiny and slim and fits perfectly in my purse so i’m always with it now…much to the chagrin of anyone hanging out with me. so it’ll probably be a few years before i’m in the market again.

Highly recommend the Nikon D50 - great functionality but easy to use right out of the box. Its not small but if you carry around a medium size purse, it can fit in there.

Its a great travel camera since its so versatile in various lighting situations. Brought it with me to Africa and came back with great shots.

The only downside to any digital SLR is that the standard lens isnt as wide angle as a film SLR….so I suggest getting a wide angle lens when you really want to dive in.

I, too, also have a Sony DSC-T1, but in black. When I first bought it, I was in love! It’s so sleek, but then after half a year of use, I started to realize how much the flash freakin’ sucks!! I constantly have to edit and lighten the pictures using Photoshop. It’s a pain. Do any other T1 owners have the same problem?! I like the newest version of the T1… It’s super cute. But I was still unsure of whether or not to buy it since I didn’t know about the flash quality. So for my 2Oth birthday last week, Boyfriend bought me a Canon SD63O and I am in absolute LOVE with it… It has great flash!! I was also contemplating on getting a DSLR, but they are incredibly expensive… along with the different lenses, etc. I guess I’m fine with a point and shoot for now. A DSLR I was looking at was the Canon EOS Rebel XT… I wanted to name her XTC. haha, I’m just kidding! But two of my friends have it… and they love it! You can try looking into that one :]

Most of the cameras on the list above are DSLRs of different levels. I do not recommend basing decisions on what’s mostly used. Here are lists for prosumer and professional DSLRs:

As for lenses not as “wide” on DSLRs than on film ones, there are now full-frame DSLRs out there such as the 5D.

gina, yah the flash is weak on the dsc-t1 and you have to have quite a steady hand to have focused nonblurry pictures. i hear the newer higher megapixel versions have addressed both those issues. it’s still good to use for convenience because it’s so tiny and has a great lcd screen (i think sony’s is far superior to canon’s in terms of lcd screen quality). but i still drool over a digital slr….

Nikon D-70- love it!! But you must definitely learn how to use it and the various lenses you should purchase, but if you’re ready to move on to D-SLRs go for it! =)

I have a Sony DSC-T1. It takes great outdoor pics but the flash is super weak.
My fiance just bought Sony’s new (and only) SLR camera, the A100. It’s pretty awesome. We can’t wait to use it in Maui.

Several years ago, I decided to become sorta “serous” and I bought a SLR camera, a Canon Elan IIe. Unfortunately, I think I’ve only used it a few times. It takes fabulous pictures, but when compared to my digital camera, it’s so big and bulky I never want to take it out. Even sometimes I find my digital camera too much of a pain to drag around, and result in using my crappy camera on my cell phone. At least it’s convenient, so I’m almost never w/o my phone.

My point is, I would keep in mind size/portability/your lifestyle. You can’t capture great shots with a fab camera if the camera is so bulky you don’t want to drag it along with you anyways!
