About Mrs. Caterpillar

I just got this in my email inbox –

Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pleae be advised that the Raventos Cava has arrived, upon weighing the cases we found that unfortunately the shipping charged will not cover the cost of shipping due to the heavy weight of the bottles, this is a glitch in the web system we are trying to have fixed, as it doesn’t allow for the heavy weight of champagne bottles. Our cost for shipping is $147.16, subtracted from the quoted cost of $96.75, that would leave $50.41, would it be reasonable to ask you to split the difference with us, and pay $25.21??? We apologize for this situation, and hope you understand our plight. Please advise…

So, I’m going to pay them the $25.21 because it’s only $25.21, but I am so irritated! How is it my difficulty that THEIR website doesn’t calculate shipping correctly?

I would refuse to pay for it. Not your fault. They quoted what they quoted… too bad for THEM, not you.

Not only all that everyone else mentioned, but they rounded YOUR share of the cost up! I know it’s only a 1 cent difference but really now, it is very unprofessional for them to do so (they rounded up, it makes your cost uneven…). Sorry I notice little things like this financially.

I don’t know how large this company is, but it would only be out of courtesy for them to eat the cost. It seems this company doesn’t deal with their customers very professionally. If it were a small company and it would be hard for them to account for this expense, then I would sort of understand but I am sure there are still better ways to handle this situation.

I admire you for being the bigger woman in this ordeal. =)

craziness, are they so on the brink of bankruptcy that $25 would break them?

it was very kind of you to agree to pay it. VERY KIND.

Their request for you to pay 1/2 is UNACCEPTABLE. Period.

You can certainly tell them so in a nice, professional way. It is THEIR responsibility to pay for any charges that are an oversight on THEIR part ~not THE CUSTOMER! I am inclined to a write a response for you *smile*
