In today’s beehive:

  • e wants to know what kind of group rates you’ve found at Manhattan hotels. She can’t find anything lower than $200/night downtown for her block of 45-60 rooms.
  • Monkee is looking for suggestions on an outdoor So Cal wedding venue, around $3-4000 for 150 guests.
  • felicity is looking for a simple bamboo arch for a beach ceremony.
  • yvette is wondering about your diy tulip centerpiece experience. Were they floppy? Do you have any recommendations for online vendors?

Hi! I’m trying to find somewhere to buy a simple bamboo arch for a beach ceremony. I’ve looked online and had no luck. Thanks!

Monkee, Have you considered Descanco Gardens in La Canada? It’s beautiful! They offer ceremony and/or reception from $2000-8000. Information is on their website. Hope that helps.

Monkee: I got married at the Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona del Mar. It is a gem of a spot and I couldn’t have been happier. Completely private and intimate. Highly recommended. Other outdoor venues: Long Beach Museum of Art and Los Angeles River Center. There are also plenty of hotels where you can have an outdoor ceremony and then bring the reception into a ballroom- e.g. Hyatt Regency Newporter, Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, Surf & Sand Resort, Laguna Cliffs Marriott.

Monkee: Another outdoor spot is the Adamson House in Malibu.

CC and jaycee! Thank you sooo much! I just jotted them down for her! Wowsers! I KNEW posting on weddingbee would be the best route! (Am I making it TOO obvious that A and I sit here “refreshing” the screen about a million times?) >.

I’d like to use tulips for centerpieces and bouquets but I heard they could be floppy, unless I use a lot. Had any brides purchased tulips in bulks and had good DIY experience?

Could anyone share other websites for tulips besides the two below?

flowerbud.com
onlinewholesaleflowers.com

thanks,
Yvette

my friend got married at the beach house in laguna beach. the ceremony was outdoors, facing the ocean, and it was simply wonderful.

e: I as well am looking to block rooms for under $200 a night, with little success. With my ceremony on the Upper East Side and my reception at Chelea Piers (The Lighthouse), we’ve settled on the Hilton on the Avenue of the Americas. We got a block of 20 rooms for $209 a night, and we plan to encourage everyone we know to book early so that they release the next block of 20 at the same rate.

Other places downtown you may want to check out: The Embassy Suites, The Marriott Financial, and The Hilton Millenium. Good Luck!

i think we got rates for around $185 at the westin times square, but around $200 sounds about average for Manhattan. Miss Firefly got married in Battery Park so maybe she knows of some good hotels downtown…

hi e…we got married at south street seaport and had a block of rooms at embassy suites battery park for $199/night for king suites and $209/night for double king suites.

i also looked at the marriott financial and hilton millenium. the rates were basically the same so i just went for the suites. if i recall, the marriot offered rooms at $189 for standard rooms, but the sales rep was really rude and pushy so i preferred not to deal with them.

Hello all! one quick question here:

I love my pet dog to bits and i would like to have her with me on my wedding day and try to include her into the photo session. is there any functional roles for a pet dog to take up beside being a ring bearer?

My friend recently had a wedding at the equestrian center in huntington beach. They had the In-n-out Truck come… and I bet it didn’t cost much at all! It was extremely cute~ and they have a large patio outdoors.
