Open Question: Venue Change

August 25th, 2006 @ 9:00 am by Mrs. Bee

My wedding is on Sept. 16, less than 4 weeks away. We found out Monday evening that our reception venue is being EVICTED. I’m not going to name names because they are trying to help us out at this point, but it’s really been a nightmare week. They had an alternate plan for us that was not really acceptable, so we’ve been pounding the pavement trying to find an alternative space at this late date (and on our limited budget).

Our venue can still do the catering, so we just need a space for 160 people in Manhattan. Surprisingly, we found a few nice spaces. Gary’s Loft and “26” at the Helen Mills Theater. I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience with these spaces. If so, we’d love to hear about it, as we have to make a decision asap. (Any other ideas are invited, as well.)

Thanks,
Amy

Holy crap. I don’t have any suggestions (sorry!) but GOOD LUCK! I’m sure it will all come together and be a great day.

Amy -
Good Luck! I’m sorry I don’t have any suggestions, but the spaces you have found look beautiful, and it is wonderful that they will be able to accomodate you on such short notice. I am sure that it will all work out. No matter what, you’ll be getting married, and that’s what counts!

There is mention of Gary’s Loft here: http://www.anotherfuckingwedding.com/2005/10/garys_loft.html

You might try to contact these bloggers and see what their opinion is. When I saw the space I told my fiance “If we were getting married in NYC, I would want to get married here!”

Thanks–that link is actually how we found Gary’s. My fiance googled something like “cheap fuc#ing wedding venues” in a moment of desparation, and her blog came up.

Referral logs are a beautiful thing. Our wedding is Labor Day weekend and I can tell you that Gary has been awesome to work with. Hands on, generous to a fault and really easygoing.

The space, now completed, is totally killer. I can’t recommend it enough. If you contact Gary, please mention our blog!

we ran into the same problem (but in california) the church we were suppose to get married in didn’t pass all it’s permits… it was a new church… we booked it in novemberish… and our wedding was in april… thought it would open… didn’t :(

so we called 150 guest to tell them that the ceremony was no longer @ the church… ended up at the reception site down the street (country club)…

it wasn’t what we planned but everything worked out in the end…

i’m sure you’re stressed out… but i know things will work out…

Charles…thanks for the info. I hope you have a fantastic wedding. It looks like we’ll be following you in a few weeks. I feel like i’m planning a whole new wedding in 3 weeks time, and I’ve never felt this much stress, but I’m sure it will all work out.
