In Korean culture, it’s considered ideal for a woman to have a spouse that’s either 4 years or 8 years older. I have no idea why actually - probably something to do with compatibility - but Mr. Bee and I are 4 years apart. I like that he’s older because I feel like I can depend on him and as the oldest child in my family, I was always the one that was depended on. I think it’s the perfect difference for us.

My fiance is 6 and a half years older than me.
The difference between us is 9 months, so basically when I was being conceived, he was being born! We’re both the youngest, and because of this, we have a lot in common.
We are 4 years apart, which is perfect. I’ve always been pretty “mature” for my age and finding someone who was older, but still young at heart was like winning the lottery for me. I’m also the oldest, so it’s nice that someone takes care of me for once.
FI is three years older. I like it because I tease him about being old. I don’t know that it makes a big difference, he’s very mature in the important ways (although still a total goofball) but I think that’s more about his personality than his age.
Well, I guess I’m the first to be older in the relationship, but only by 40 days. Really, I don’t think age effects us at all. We are extremely compatable and compliment each other well!
My wife is four years younger than me. It definitely impacts our relationship, because she has a very limited knowledge of what happened in the early 80’s. So whenever the 80’s come up, I feel very old…
My BF and I are 4 years apart too…and we are both the youngest in our families.
I am older than my fiance by 5 years but he is very mature for his age and I am immature for my age. So it balances us out just fine
My husband and I are 4 years apart. I like my husband being older because he’s more mature in some ways and think differently on some certain things. Also I’m the oldest in the family, so it’s nice being pamper. In chinese zodiac says it’s best signs being in a relationship or compatible four to eight years apart.
We’re one year and four months apart… which to me is basically the same age. I actually have never really thought about age in relation to us, but probably because there’s not much difference!
FI is six years older. The way that I look at it, boys take longer to mature so it works out! We tease each other about our ages, and sometimes one of us doesn’t get a reference (like he didn’t know who Beyonce was), but other than that, it does not affect us at all.
The four/eight year thing may have to do with Chinese astrology. According to the Chinese zodiac, you are most compatible with people whose age differs from you in mutiples of four. So people who are 4, 8, 12, 16, etc years apart get along the best.
Mr. Bluebell is 1 year and one month older than me, but since he didn’t speak any English when they came to the US they held him back a year in school, so we went through school the same time. I don’t think about the age difference hardly at all, except to make fun of him for being old since he’s extra sensitive about it because he was always the oldest in his class.
I’m also the older one in the relationship. I’m three years older. We are mostly on the same page but I worry about when it’s time to have kids that we might not be!
He’s 4 years older - the only time I think about our age difference is when he mentions his travels - he’s been EVERYWHERE and I pout and think, well, maybe in 4 years I’ll have caught up with Mr. World Traveler.
I’m exactly three weeks older than him and we get along really well.
i am 9 months older than my bf. he likes to say he’s into older women. i just roll my eyes. he’s the oldest in his fam [and only has a younger sister] so he’s very responsible and protective and pays tons of attention to me, which works perfectly as a flighty attention starved middle child.
the only problem we face is that he constantly complains about being too old for stuff; at the ripe age of 24, which automatically makes me older by default. sometimes i can’t stand that goober. 
im 5 months and 2 days older than my bf… but because we were born in different years, i tease and tell him he should call me “noona”.. (older sister in korean). im an oldest and he’s an oldest - we basically make up for what the other lacks in terms of responsibility and maturity and take turns. i do find, however, that in terms of where we are in our lives, im much more ready to settle down than he is… i guess this is where it would be good if he was 4 years older =).
my fiance is 4.5 years older than me and i think it’s perfect i’ve always been more mature for my age….so i think it balances out quite nicely. also, he’s more neurotic about the “grown up” things and i’m more neurotic about uh… other things. so i think we’re a fine fit in that sense.

MY FI is 4 years older than me. He was born the Chinese year of the Dragon (western equivalent to Aries), while I was born year of the Monkey (western equivalent to Leo) and we’re definitely compatible.
We’re a year a 10 days apart, with him being older. I love being with someone who is so close in age to me. I really like that we can relate about how old we were when we experienced different things. I have friends that are anywhere from 8 years younger than me to 12 years older than me, but I think our close age is helpful in us understanding and relating to each other.
I’m 20, and he’ll be 22 in October. There’s roughly 20 months difference in our ages. (Which is currently how long we’ve been together…heh). We are both the only children in our family, and we are so alike it’s scary.
He’s older by one year and two months, and i tease him about being the old one constantly. I actually like that he’s a little older.
My boyfriend is a year and a half older than I am, and we consider that an insignificant difference. It doesn’t stop me from calling him an old man, though!
Jeff’s not quite two years older than me. The only time I ever notice the difference is when he goes out w/ his friends (I’m not 21 until next month). But generally I’m the more mature one, and have always been mature for my age, so we pretty much equal out.
Mr Ant is about 6 months older than me. But he is way more mature than I am. Haha.
=O It cut my comment! Hmm.. okay, AGAIN, bf is 7 years older than I am. Not a big enough of an age gap, at times. -_-;
he’s 4 years older than me. i’m also the oldest, & i agree with mrs. bee. i love being able to depend on someone else. he’s even taken on some of my responsibilities in respect to my family & we’re not even married yet!
i dated a couple of guys that we’re the same age as i am & just didn’t work out.
I’m with Miss Lily…we are only a year and 8 months apart, so I think of us as the same age…except I’m not “legal” to drink yet…that’s about the only difference. I never really give our age difference a thought, since we are so close.
my previous 3 bf’s have been mangnaes and all were also 1979ers. my current bf is a mangnae and a 1979er. i’m a jangnyuh and was born jan 1980. i like being friends more than anything else…
My BF is also 4 years older (and 2 months and 2 days)… it really set him apart when I was first getting to know him, because he was much more mature, confident, and also more humble than men my age. And yeah, I sometimes do make him feel really old when we talk about the 80’s (I’m ‘87, he’s ‘82).
i think one of the posters above is right - that the 4, 8 year thing has to do with the chinese zodiac compatibility.
My fiance & I were born 3 days apart in 1981…I’m the elder. He does call me “Vieja” though (it means “old lady” in Spanish) lol.
My husband is 8 years and 8 months older, and it’s perfect I told myself that I want someone older and not the youngest child in the family, cus I’m the oldest in the family, and has been depended on, just like Mrs. Bee said. I like how he takes care of things and me!
My FI is 2.5 years younger to the day. We are two old souls.
My BF is 3 years older than I am. I’m the oldest, and he’s the youngest. It works out, cuz I for once would love to be taken care of, and he vice versa.
My fiance is 23 (I counted, haha) days older than I am… I really haven’t given it all that much thought, although he always claims that he’s “so old”… one day he said, “wait and see how you feel in 23 days… then you’ll understand how I feel today!” (keep in mind we’re in our early 20s)… We met in high school, graduated together and everything, he’s the oldest in his family, I’m the youngest… we balance each other pretty well. Funny thing is though, we’re getting married in between our birthdays, so he’ll be 24 and I’ll be 23! Go figure. :-p
My fiance is 2 yrs younger than me. He’s also the only guy I’ve dated that is younger than me. For all the yrs before I met him, I always like being with older guys. Some as much as 10 yrs older than me. I guess I always thought that older means: more mature, more stable, more dependable. Man was that just not necessarily the case, at least not for MY experience! When I first started dating my fiance, I thought it was soooo weird to be w/a younger guy! I felt like a “molester” lol. I was also worried whether he was at the stage of life of being interested in a serious relationship. Guess what, he turned out to be the one that takes the best care of me, the most mature, most reliable, most emotionally stable person I’ve ever met!
my fiance is 29 and i’m 22. if i think about it 8 years difference in age doesn’t seem like too much- and most of the time it doesn’t make a difference. however, because i’m still really young and he’ll be turning 30 this year (yikes!) i do see a difference at times. i’m a total goofball and although we compliment each other really well, he’s much more calm and a lot more mature than i am. he likes to tease me and says he thinks he’s more my dad than my husband to be. i definitely have to agree with mrs. bee- i love that he takes care of me, being that i’m the oldest out of my siblings!
hahaha i liked john’s comment about the 80s! my husband and i are 3 years apart so i feel like i am pretty caught up on 80s culture, but he jokes that my knowledge is limited (ie…what’s Oregon Trail?)
anyhow, like mrs. bee, i also like that i can depend on my husband, who happens to be the oldest in his family. but since he’s such a kid at heart, i think we even each other out.
My fiance is 9 years older, but it all works out. I love that he’s older b/c he has stability and I… am funnnnn.
My fiance and i were born in the same year but my birthday is in January and his is in June. I’m the older one in the family and he’s the younger one. There are times when i see the difference, but it works out.
my FI and i are 4 yrs apart. I remember someone asking us what is the age gap between me & my FI and i had told her and her respond was “that’s a good match”. I never really understood why 4 yrs are consider a good match and yet i still don’t understand!
