New Layout

August 27th, 2006 @ 6:13 pm by Mrs. Bee

Update - the tag cloud is now much smaller in this version, and you have the option of expanding it. Also this updated comment page includes sections on tags for that entry, related posts, and related tags. Thoughts?

Hello everyone!

Please take a moment to look at the new weddingbee layout BIL Bee created and let us know what you think! :)

oh boy. i know you’ve worked so hard on the new layouts and all, but i still think it’s a bit busy.

i personally like the tags, but not as the side column. maybe use a search box for tags along the right side or keep the tags as a drop down. but instead of dropping vertically, set the drop down to drop horizontally. hope that makes sense - it does in my head i’m not so sure in words though.

keep up the good work!!

I think it is a bit too busy too. I would say list them vertically one by one such as the below.

Advice
Annoucements
Bachelorette Party
etc
etc

This way it doesn’t take up as much space but you can still list everything you want. Hope that helps.

I actually disagree with the above - I like the tags where they are. I would also like to see lists of links, info, and recent posts on the left sidebar. That way it would be just ads on the right, and just content on the left.

Also, under “Bloggers” you don’t have Mr. Bee listed. And you don’t have any “Ms.” bloggers either, which seems weird to me, as few of my married friends go by “Mrs.”

:)

I agree with the first couple readers.. I think it looks great - but a tad bit busy. I love the tags feature, but not on the left column - I think it takes away from the actual posts in the middle. I personally would love to see a wider post area in the center… >.

I agree–the site is a tad busy. Can you push the google ads down a bit so both sides are symmetrical? There is so much going on on the left and right that the posts lose focus.

I have to agree. I think there is way too much going on on the page. Could you perhaps just create a search function or a seperate page for the tags? My eyes wonder in way too many directions, and I sort of question how much use the tags will get (at least for regular readers)…HTH :)

Agreed with the others–I really do think it’s a great effort though!

Also, it seems like the search and email subscribe buttons seem stuck in the corner as an afterthought–perhaps if you joined them in a green-bordered box that would help?

I don’t usually use tags but I appreciate all the effort you put in to making this blog user friendly. I say that the old layout is what works best for me

I think the tags are awesome and VERY HELPFUL but I like them where they are…under the tab. I think the new layout is too busy and distracting. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. =) I love weddingbee the way it is!

yup takes away from the middle section (the more important stuff) i think the original version looks great.

one idea though - change background layout to match the season.. green for summer is cool, maybe brown or orange for fall.. etc.

Thanks for all the hard work! But I also like the tags function just the way it is now. It’s clean and easy as is =)

I love how the bride is on the lefthand side now. It flows a lot better w/ the weddingbee header. =)

Great job!!!

can u make the font on the google add smaller and italic to keep the focus in the middle content?

How about moving the tag to the right hand side, exactly opposite of the bride. And, split the google add (smaller font and italic) into both sides, right underneath the tag & the image to make the layout more symmetrical.

btw, i think w/ all his hardwork, BIL Bee should also get an image icon, maybe wearing a different color overall like Mr. Bee, but w/ BIL embroided on it. :p

I agree about it being too busy. Maybe create a light background or change the font colors to something lighter or less bright so the main content can stand out.

I agree with style graduate about putting the other links on the left sidebar and all ads on the right.

Props to you for your continued patience with all of the readers. You really seem to listen to your fans, rather than “just doing it your way” as many bloggeristas would do in your position!

Regarding my thoughts on your layout, I also feel that the left or right side for the tags does not maximize your style or space. When the tags are placed on either side, the remainder of the page has too much empty space. The blog reads better with the current format. My vote is for a pull down tab or for the tags to run across the page horizontally underneath the tags.

Good luck with your final decision.

i love your site layout the way it is now. the new site looks too complicated. the tags on the left hand side distract the reader from the main blogs.

it does seem a little busy to me but between the two, i like the layout with the bigger tags.
