Invitations

August 28th, 2006 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Snail

Tomorrow my mother, future MIL and fiance are going to take a look and possibly decide on invitations. You’re probably wondering where I, or the bride-to-be, am in the previous sentence. I won’t be going with them because I have work. So I’m leaving the decision to my fiance and our mothers.

Is this a bad idea?

I trust the three of them will make the right decision. The one thing I am a bit worried about is my mom. She mentioned how she wanted to include the birth order of my fiance and I on the invitations, like it would on a traditional Korean invitation. I told her it really is unnecessary, and that the parents’ names and ours would be fine. I don’t even know how you would word something like that in English without it looking ridiculous and keeping the invitation to one page. But my mother feels strongly about it. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that someone tells her there won’t be enough room on the actual invitation.

A friend of mine did this, but not entirely. Her fiance and his mother (and maybe alsoher mother, but I don’t think so) picked out their 4 favorites. She chose from those 4. And that was that. Worked out very well for her.

If you’re really that opposed to the idea (and given your reasons, your opposition sounds very reasonable), you could always try calling the stationer ahead of time and letting them know of how your mom’s and your wishes conflict, then suggest that he/she guide them away from that wording.

Can you have an additional insert (in korean) to include in the korean guests’ invitations?

What’s the whole birth order thing? I’m korean too and have no clue about that. Speaking of that.. my mom wants to include so many korean traditions while I’m trying to stray away from that as much as possible. What’s your stance on it and how have you managed to juggle everyone’s expectations?

i could not leave the invitation in the hands of others… i would have them pick out their favorites & get a copy/sample so that you can make the final decision :)

i haven’t heard of the birth order either… i’m korean & my hubbs chinese… if we did all traditions we’d have a pack day full of chinese tea ceremony, korean traditions, etc. we decided to just go with traditional american. if we did korean, we’d have to do chinese & vice-versa… worked out in the end.

Can you print both Korean invitations and English invitations and distribute as needed?

i was hoping a korean worded invitation can go out to the parent’s friends and to my fiance and mine.. we’ll have the english version but in this case, they’re going the “modern” route in sending out invitations written out all in english. >.
