Registry Part II

August 28th, 2006 @ 4:26 pm by Mrs. Butterfly

We finished our registry! Well, almost….

Mr. Butterfly and I went to Crate and Barrel this weekend to finish registering for our kitchen and dining room items. This time, I definitely went a little crazy with the scanner gun because I ended up with 70 unique items in the store. This does not count the 8 different place settings for each item.

I will have to look through both Macy’s and Crate & Barrel lists to edit, add and dump some items, but otherwise it’s another thing off the to-do list!

Now, I have a question for you readers.

For our Macy’s registry, a couple of the items are not available online. So the guests will either have to call the store and have them delivered, or go pick it up themselves. I have a feeling that people will just not buy those items since it’s too much trouble. So, do I leave them on the registry anyway? Or do I replace them with other items?

What do you think?

I would leave them on there. If they purchase a gift that will be delivered, it allows them to only bring a card, especially convenient if they’re travelling a great distance.

Registries are addictive. Someone told me that bridal registries are to women what fantasy football is to men.

Leave it on, then you get a discount if you buy it later

Honestly, I don’t see it as an inconvenience to go the store and purchase a gift. I like to see (up close and personal) what the brides has chosen. Especially if it’s china. For any elderly guests, they are definitely more like to go to the store than order online. Plus, there’s a Macy’s in almost every major city. Heck, we have two!

Old-school types who aren’t hip to the WWW (esp if they’re local) just may show up at the store, buy something & take it to the wedding. So if you want the stuff, leave it on there.

Oh, I’m so glad you asked this question…just looked at my registry and wondered the same thing!

If it’s unimportant stuff then I say leave it on. However in my case I was notified this weekend that my Pottery Barn dishes were no longer going to be available online. I didn’t think it was likely that people were going to go to a Pottery Barn (which are somewhat rare in our area) to buy our dishes, and since I consider them sort of essential I just bought them with money I received at my shower.

i would leave them on. like s said, you get a pretty nifty discount when you go back to purchase stuff you didn’t get on your registry [that tasty nugget of knowledge came courtesy of a registry trip i took when i helped my friend register for her gifts]

Definitely leave them on — so many people (both young and old) bought gifts in-store for us and brought them to my showers and to the wedding. It’s good to have multiple options available for your guests, and a lot of people do really like being able to buy things in the store and bring beautifully-wrapped gifts with them to the wedding. (Side note: be sure to have a gift table kinda thing at your wedding — that’s one thing we almost forgot to arrange, which would have been disastrous for the dozens of gifts that were brought on the day!)

leave it on, even if it’s being discontinued or not in stock. i work in a store known for its registry, and guests will buy anything at any time. on saturdays, i frequently get guests “in a hurry” — they just left the ceremony and want to buy a gift to take to the reception (anything from a vacuum cleaner to a set of wine glasses).

Leave them on. Sometimes people prefer going to the store and buying gifts.

i’m like such an online freak i’d be inclined to take them off. :)

i’d say the vast majority of people purchased things online for our wedding - esp if you live in manhattan. and your parent’s friends are likely to give you cash and not purchase off your registry… but that completion incentive is a reason to keep them on. if it’s only a couple of things, no harm in keeping them on in case someone does go into the store to purchase something.
