Mr. Caterpillar’s mama purchased parasols for some of the more sun adverse guests to hide under during the ceremony. A brilliant idea. But the parasols came topped with an odd little square of yellow polyester over the finial for who knows what reason. My OCD required me to pull off all those little pieces of fabric and add decadent southern luxury.
I gilded the tip, then decoupaged a strip of vintage sheet music around the bottom of the finial, and added some silk hydrangea to the top. Finally, I tied a length of ribbon around the whole thing.

but i love all your crafty work…
Question: How do you plan on shipping all these DIY projects to your venue? (Just wondering because I am facing a similar dilemma myself)
you really are creative and crafty. i know your wedding will be very beautiful and one of a kind.
where did you order the parasols? how would you rate their quality?
FYI — I don’t know where the parasols came from, but they are not any sort of premium quality. They smell sort of weird, and they never quite fold into their original shape after being opened. I think Mama Caterpillar found them through Oriental Intrigue or something like that.

i have been wanting to get a parasol all summer, since i am fair, for regular wlaking/non-wedding usage. but have been told i won’t be able to pull it off. so sad!
