In today’s beehive:

  • kp is looking for a wedding planner book to purchase. She’s considering Martha’s, Bride’s Essential Wedding Planner, or Bride’s Book of Lists. Any recommendations/reviews?
  • glass is debating whether to take her engagement pictures in the fall or next spring. When did you take yours?
  • Emmy wants to know what the deciding factors were in deciding on your veil.
  • arbela99 is coming to New York this weekend and is looking for places to check out bejeweled hair combs and any other good wedding stores.

See all past beehives here. To add your question to the beehive, leave a comment below and we’ll update this post to include your question.

This isn’t a question but it’s just something that I thought NYC Weddingbee readers would be interested in.

Photographer Liana Lehman mentioned to me in an email that her and 50 other photographers will be doing free modeling shoots for couples or anyone interested.

I believe this is part of a photography workshop called xtreme seminar led by Liana and La-based photographer, Jessica Claire.

Information is as follows:
Location: Boylan Studios in Chelsea (boylanstudios.com)

Shooting Times: 1-2:30 pm, 5:30 pm on 10/30 AND 12:30-2:30 pm on 10/31.

It’s open to anyone who is interested and they will have a sign-up form on their site up soon. Otherwise, the seminar site can be found at xtremeseminar.com/nyc06.

I have a random question. With all the different types of veils out there… what were the deciding factors that made you choose yours? I’m having a hard time visualizing all the different types and how well they will go with my dress, so any advice would be great!

Hi Emmy,

Usually the more formal the affair, the longer the veil. I had a fingertip length one with no blusher. But looking at so many beautiful pics of people with blushers or longer veils, I kinda wish I had gone more dramatic. For the sake of the pictures. ;)

Emmy,
Originally I wasn’t going to wear a veil for our outdoor ceremony. When I went to try on my dress I through a veil on and it just completed the ‘bridal’ look. I plan on taking if off after the ceremony. Once I decided I was going to wear a veil, I tried on different lengths. At first I decided on a elbow length, then I tried on the fingertip length and loved it. I would just try on different lengths and styles with your dress.

I’m expanding my blog, and I’m looking for a bridal blogger, among others. My blog is about affordable style, so I’d like someone who can work with that. Details on my casting call are here: http://stylegraduate.blogspot.com/2006/08/casting-call-style-graduate-is-looking.html
and anyone who is interested can contact me at stylegraduate@gmail.com

I hope this is okay for the beehive!

kp - the State Farm free wedding planner is actually really good; a friend of mine just got hers.

I’m going up to New York this weekend and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to find bejeweled hair combs? And, in addition to that, any other wedding-related stores that I should definitely check out? Thanks!!

New question for the hive:

We are planning to forgo favors and use the money instead to make a donation to a specific charity. Now, how do we let the guests know? We’re not having a seated dinner but will have tables throughout the venue, and I was thinking of placing notes that say “In lieu of favors…” Any other more creative ideas?

Bebe - you could put a note in the programs, if you are having programs.
