Honeymoon Registry

August 30th, 2006 @ 4:15 pm by Guest

by: Nanette, Knottie Nannersp

Because my husband and I already had an established home (we’d lived together more than two years), we decided to have a honeymoon (HM) registry for our wedding.

Prior to setting up the HM registry I asked my friends their opinions, knowing that it’s an untraditional option. They thought it was a great idea! They understood that we wouldn’t need much else to stock our kitchen, etc. As one friend noted, she’d rather give us money to go to China than actual china. Heh!

We used TheHoneymoon.com and they were great! The “catch” is that they charge a fee for your guests to use it, but in my opinion, it’s nominal (typically around 7%) and not unlike the tax, shipping and handling that guests have to pay when they use traditional registeries.

They sent us a check about three days before our HM and another one about a month after our wedding. You can close the account earlier, if you’d like, but they suggest keeping it open in case someone decides to give you something after the wedding.

We had this registry in addition to two traditional registries, so there were options for all of our guests. Most of the HM registry gifts came from our peers, as opposed to older family members who are more traditional.

HM registries are not for everyone, but it worked for us. I highly recommend it, if your guests seem open to it.

I think the honeymoon registry is a great idea especially to couples who have been living together.

For those who don’t want to trouble their guests with service fees, there are other honeymoon registries that charge the couples instead. (I don’t think I can post the links on here.)

There’s also the Starwood Honeymoon registry posted by Mrs. Bee that is free. However, you would have to book with Starwood.

http://www.honeymoonwishes.com is what we are using. they allow you to chose who pays the fee- either the couple or if you want the guests to.

We are using http://www.honeyfund.com

Free for everyone, no service charges. But the catch is (there is always a catch) the guest will have to send you a check or send $ via pay pal. But again, the best part is NO SERVICE FEE!

Hi,

We used Distinctive Honeymoons (www.distinctivehoneymoons.com) for our destination wedding as well as for our honeymoon planning and honeymoon registry.

Their agent was very helpful and patient with us. I was able to get a hold of a “real” person and got the special care needed during a crazy time.

We had a wonderful destination wedding in Mauii Hawaii.

I highly recommend Distinctive Honeymoons.

Regards,
- Garnet

Wow¢¢â€š¬¦. Well thanks for your reply; I went to http://www.distinctivehoneymoons.com, a very informative web site. It is easy to use and has a lot of good information.
I was looking for wedding registries but now that I have read about honeymoon registries, I think I will setup a honeymoon registry.
Thanks Garnet..

A bit late in the day, this (and please excuse the blatant self-promotion) — but Buy Our Honeymoon (http://www.buy-our-honeymoon.com/usa) is a new honeymoon registry that charges zero service fees by allowing your guests to pay you directly, either into your PayPal account, in cash or by check. The great benefit of this is that you get the full value of your gifts the moment they’re given — no waiting around to bank a check just days before your wedding. We charge a $49 setup fee, for which you get an incredibly flexible system to build and maintain your registry, a selection of beautiful themes, and no advertising on your list pages. We have a free, no-obligation 7-day trial, so you can fully try us out before making a decision.

We used HoneyLuna for our honeymoon registry and it worked great! Our friends and family LOVED that they could buy us pieces of our honeymoon! Creating the registry was easy using the templates they have - and we had a great time writing comments and descriptions for the individual activities. Check them out at http://www.honeyluna.com they also have a great blog with lots of honeymoon info. at http://www.honeylunablog.blogspot.com

We used Distinctive Honeymoon but were very upset with one fee after another. We paid a set-up fee of a few hundred bucks then our guests had to pay a fee for each gift. Since they handle all the travel plans, they are a travel agent too, they get a 15% commission. On top of that we found out we wouldn’t get any points for our stays at the hotels b/c they are wholesalers and most of our flights had one or two layovers. It was a slightly disappointing experience.

Traveler's Joy Honeymoon Registry

Thank you for mentioning the benefits of a honeymoon registry and describing the attributes behind this increasingly mainstream registry option for engaged couples.

It is great to see how popular the honeymoon registry is becoming. When Traveler’s Joy first started accepting Members over four years ago, we soon realized there was a large number of engaged couples that were not satisfied with the diversity of the wedding registry market. Since then, the industry has experienced significant growth. We are proud to have helped thousands of couples travel to destinations they may never have considered - a great feeling for everyone involved with the wedding and honeymoon experience.

I encourage you to contact us with any questions about our service. Most importantly, enjoy your honeymoon!

Best Regards,

Hi all! We loved the idea of a honeymoon registry, but hated seeing all the fees. We ended up starting our own honeymoon registry service called Smart Honeymoon. We have some great etiquette information too, which we think is so important. Thanks for checking us out at http://www.smarthoneymoon.com!

John
