Teal and ???

August 30th, 2006 @ 2:43 pm by Mrs. Lily

I’m so glad Mrs. Bee posted about how many brides have difficulties choosing their colors. I literally had a panic attack (OK, not literally…) about my own colors — or lack thereof — last night. I am soooooooo confused! Can anyone out their help me?

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I think I am going to use teal dresses, and was leaning towards light muted blue table cloths with white or chartreuse flowers and teal accents (ribbons, etc). BUT… when I went to look at linens in Tucson, NONE of the vendors had light blue table cloths. They had bright aqua, bright teal, cornflower blue, mint green… no light blue. Hrmph. I toyed with the idea of white table cloths and finding some colored napkins, but I think the room really needs color! This is what the ballroom looks like:

Pretty bare bones, right? Does anyone have ideas? What can I do with teal (brown is out b/c a friend is using a different blue and brown, as is peach or pink because they are too southwestern)?

This is giving me a headache!

teal goes with a lot of things i think. you could do black, cream and teal. you could get cream linens with teal vases and accents, with cream flowers? if i think of more will let you know!

Ooh..I was about to say the same thing! After looking through the Aqua knottie link in the “aqua” post, I really liked it with black. I don’t know if it might make everything look too dreary though. I’m not sure what kind of feel you’re going for. If you want something lighter, perhaps a light yellow and beige would work (and maybe with spurts of light green)?

i like black or brown. why is brown out just because a friend is using a different shade of it?

Hmmm… I think the major problem I am having now is what color linens to use! The room needs something to liven it up!!! I do like black and brown with teal, but I don’t think they’ll work for the linens :-( ARGH!

peach, gold, cream, orange, pink, white, brown, pale or gold yellow…any warm color really…i would try a warm cream color for the table clothes and then maybe soft gold accents if you didnt want to do brown, pink or peach?

being a non-bride, this may be obvious (and i’m asking out of sheer curiosity and not negatively implying), but does it ultimately matter if someone else happens to have a similar color scheme as you? (i.e. the brown and teal)

I was having the same problem. My mom found the perfect teal MOB dress and we bought it on the spot. My dress is ivory with “cafe” piping (it’s very very light biege) and lace and almost looks champagne colored at times.

Anyway, the bridemaid dresses are going to be chocolate brown. In the store they were showing me a kind of shimmery fabric that was both teal and brown…could you do that for bridesmaids?

Ivory o r cahmpagne will work too. Why don’t you go to lowes or home depot and find a paint swatch that matches the teal and another that matches your dress and go through the paint colors and find other colors that match? That’s ultimately what I’m going to end up doing.

Bright warm colors or light pink would probably go too, but it all depends what you’re looking for.

What about navy blue? Surely, you could find a navy tablecloth.

In answer to the questions about why I don’t want to use the same colors as another bride, it’s because she is a close friend and her wedding is right before mine. I guess I just want my wedding to feel like it looks a little different from all the others I am going to this year, and to let my friend feel like hers is different too!!!! :-)

Also, FYI I like teal and limey-green, and am trying to come up with a light colored cloth. Sorry for all the extra details!

Becky-O: I was thinking light colors, but navy may not be such a bad idea! Going to run this by my FI tonight! Thank you!

i think it’d look cool with white and a bit of red. it’s a really cool accent color for teal.

Black always works. Also, I saw a beautiful spread of red and teal (or aqua) in Martha Stewart Weddings last month.

I’ve also seen orange with teal and it was really beautiful together (I think it was the girl who did the orange Gocco stuff that is in last week’s posts on here). Unusual combos can be quite lovely.

I was going to say lime-green would be a great color to go with the teal, and if you’re looking for a 3rd color to go with that, maybe a lavender-periwinkle’ish color. This site may be helpful in putting color combos together:

I agree with h. Any sort of warm color would be lovely! I’m an aqua bride myself, and I’m accenting with lots of golds, oranges and reds (but it’s a destination wedding, so bright flowers were a must-have).

I think a rich gold or a soft orangey-red could be fantastic!

Champagne! A nice creamy champagne color will work perfectly with the teal, and will dress up the room in the same subtle way the light blue would.

Teal and Light Pink looks nice, it’s pretty simple, but it’s elegant in some ways. Also dress it up with a lot flowers. Like a simple clear square or a round vase in the middle of the table would do the trick.

Teal is a beautiful color! The color go well with either darker pink or orange. Also, lime green is a good choice too.
