About Mrs. Daisy

They’re He-e-ere

My invitations! I am thrilled to say that at around 6:00 last night my invitation guru Shana called to let me know that my invites had arrived and were at the Wedding Library. By happy coincidence, Mr. Daisy and I were en route to a meeting a mere couple of blocks from the Library, with the umpteenth another officiant in our ongoing search, so planned to go there afterward and check out the goods.

And, oh my god, I love love love them. I want so desperately to post them here but they’re not going to the calligrapher until today and aren’t getting mailed out until after Labor Day. But I love them so much I almost want to marry *them*! (just kidding, Mr. Daisy!)

I chose letterpress invites as I am quasi-obsessed with letterpress, and thought to use Julie Holcomb Printers, which is a traditional letterpress that uses its own special blend of artisanal paper (just like Folger’s coffee, I’m sure!) that is theoretically ideal for letterpress. This printer prints on ecru or white paper only, which at first seemed limiting, but then when Mr. Daisy and my family were really keen on back-to-basics, I came to love. (I still really lust after my bridesmaid Sam’s red paper/white text invite of years ago. So vivid!)

But– I could not love my invites more. Sorry to be such a tease, but I will post them as soon as they are received by the masses.* Meantime, I will share some (very blurry due to my lack of camera prowess) shots of the contenders (both by Page Stationery):

Letterpress invite on composite paper (shown in one color, though we would have done two):

My original choice, though I eventually deemed it too casual for our evening wedding:

* And I do mean masses. Each day, our list scarily multiplies like Gremlins in water. Not cool.

Tea, letterpress can be cheap as can be or pricey as can be, depending on the vendor. more reasonably priced letterpress vendors include William Arthur and i also know that paper-source.com now does letterpress (http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/letterpress/custom_index.html).

the fewer colors you use, the less it will cost. also, if you use stock ink colors rather than custom colors, that will also make it more reasonable. Crane’s letterpress may not be too costly. the one thing is though, with lower-priced letterpress vendors, some of the appeal may be lost depending on the paper used and how deep the letterpress is, well, pressed. if the paper isn’t thick enough to have give, then it could end up looking almost the same as flat printing.

on the higher (read: costlier) end are brands like:
http://www.carrotandstickpress.com
http://www.elumdesigns.com/
http://www.hellolucky.com/
http://www.peculiarpairpress.com/

just to name a few.

don’t even get me started– i could do a whole post on letterpress brands alone. i spent countless hours going through book after book at store after store…

jaclyn, i adored the Page invites. i meant to mention in my post (but forgot!) that the hand feel of the Page invitations is like nothing else. they were like the softest brushed cotton and the letterpress made the paper just plump out. incredible! i would *love* to see them if you have a scanned image to email me. (yes, my stationery love runs deep).

i was almost at a coin flip deciding between Page and Julie Holcomb. in the end, i actually let my mom and Mr. Daisy decide since i was *that* torn.

Lucky Miss Daisy — I love letterpress. I tried to convince Mr. Caterpillar to buy me a letterpress. He was on board until he realized they weigh 6000lbs.

Have you seen the invites from Dauphine Press? So gorgeous.
