Invitation Day

September 1st, 2006 @ 3:27 pm by Mrs. Bee

Got two invitations in the mail today! One for Miss Butterfly’s wedding next month (but I’ll let her post the pictures), and another for a morning after brunch at the Martha’s Vineyard wedding Mr. Bee and I are attending this month. Both invites were done in thermography.

Am I the only one who gets this excited over receiving wedding invitations?

I love getting invitations! Especially ones that a lot of effort and design planning went into. What sucks though, is that last month I received one save-the-date and one wedding invitation, both the same color as how I want my invitation stationary(chocolate brown card with colored letterpress). Damn! now I have to come up with a new color scheme. Is it me or does almost eveyone want to incorprate chocolate brown into weddings these days? I’ve got a year to come up with something new. Tell me I’m not a loser.

I’m with you–I loooove getting the invitation. Even more so when I can tell that the couple took the time to find invitations that reflect who they are or what their wedding will be like. I’ve had friends say that when they opened up our wedding invitations they smiled because they reminded them of me. I think that’s great!

I love getting invites, but I think I’m the only one among my friends that actually cares about this sort of thing. I’ve received some pretty disappointing invites though, like the couple just didn’t care (more likely, they just didn’t know better) - like pre-perforated ones from Staples. Or DIY laser-printed on vellum where the toner rubbed off and was illegible. Or DIY inkjet on metallic paper that rubbed off. I’m all for DIY, as long as it doesn’t actually LOOK DIY!

All I’ve been receiving are samples and I’m bouncing around like its’ the real thing. So NO, you’re not alone!

Jaycee…some couples really DONT care about the invitations, or don’t want to waste the money because they know that 95% of people will throw them away…or maybe they can’t afford to drop a lot of money on them…it shouldn’t be disappointing, because it’s still a wedding between people you care about…I dunno, just my opinion.

I guess I sounded pretty superficial, but I didn’t mean to. The disappointment is only a personal thing (I really really like paper goods!). Obviously the couples cared enough for me to be there on their special day, and I wouldn’t let an invitation get in the way of that. Thanks for pointing it out though, it made me think about it more
