About Mrs. Snail

Aisle Tunes

September 3rd, 2006 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Snail

I think for the most part, many of us envisioned ourselves walking down the aisle to that one infamous tune that goes *duuun dun duh da~~ duuun dun duh da~~* I know I did. I used to hold onto random objects (i.e. handful of Polly-O string cheese, spatula, etc.) and do the two step “princess” glide. But now when I think of walking down the aisle to the altar, I don’t want the typical Wedding March song. Does anybody else feel this way?

One of my best friends, Julia, made a cd compilation of possible wedding intros and exits. When my father walks me down the aisle, I was thinking of using Edelweiss (piano and violin). When I listen to this one version, I can totally picture my dad and I. And for my newly married exit, a jazzy, modern version of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. It sounds happy and something that might come out in a Super Mario World video game.

Who knows? My parents might oppose my idea of the DJ playing these two selections, so maybe I’ll just use the piano version of Canon in D and the Wedding March. But I think my choices sound different and interesting, no? I haven’t been to a wedding in ages, so am I thinking an idea that’s already been out there for sometime now is totally new and cool?

For the weddings, I’ve been to recently, the music is widely varied. I haven’t heard a “hear comes the bride” in quite some time. I think you should choose what you love! I’m not using the wedding march — I’m using “tis a gift to be simple” instead. I want music that is bright, happy, and clean! Edelweiss sounds lovely!

i hear the typical wedding songs every weekend (the hubbs & i are photographers)… it would be nice for a change…

i actually went to one wedding where they used all movie themed songs throughout their ceremony… it was really nice ;)

i’m not sure which version it is.. but it has a piano beginning and violins for the more dramatic effect with the elegant feel.

I think nowadays everyone is playing music that has special meaning. None of that traditional wedding march. I haven’t thought this far but i think i’m going to stick to the traditional. Haha.

Miss Snail, can you share the info of the DJ you are using? I’m looking for a Korean DJ. YOurs is Korean right? THank you!

I can’t not agree more with all those who would rather walk to silence than that damn march…I have been thinking a lot about this. I was thinking of using something meaningful like Sade “By Your Side” - I want a song that is happy and sentimental and speaks to what has brought us there is the first place.

I am so tired of that Wedding March song…did u know? Its sorta of a tragic/sad song? It was from an opera and operas always end in tragedy…Why would anyone want to play a song from an opera that ends in tragedy? Not me but of course we face the same dilemna….we have to pick something “different” but of course..different is hard to do. We saw John Williams at the Hollywood bowl last night and though about playing his movie musical scores for the recessional! Nothing like ET…STar Wars….INdian JOnes and Superman! hahah..
Ok so we’re a little nuts but it just has this triumphant tune to a good ending! haha..but of course, John Williams hasn’t sold a CD that has a compliation of musical scores all in one tune….=( ..oh well Back to the drawing board….

I don’t think I ‘ll be using the march. I love the cello & violin, so I’m thinking about something that incorporates one (or both!) instruments…as for our exit, I have no idea what we’d play…

I’ve got a while to give it some thought ;)

We are using recorded music by Bret Denen, a younger musician fro California that we both really like. The lyrics are very appropriate for both my entrance and our exit.

I’m sick to death of Cannon in D! Yes, it’s a pretty song, but YAWN!

I’ll probably be walking down the aisle to “Theme for a Princess” from the Braveheart soundtrack (I’m not a fan of the title, but it’s a beautiful piece of music) and we’ll walk out to the beginning of ‘Clocks’ by Coldplay. We’re definitely not into the traditional wedding music!

I went to a wedding recently where the bride walked out to an instrumental version of The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony. It was awesome!

Can you find out where she found it - I’m going nuts trying to find an instrumental version for the same purpose!

samhradh, if you have not gotten married yet, i’d love some more info on how you’re doing ‘theme for a princess’- i love it and would like to use it also. are you just using it for when you walk down, or for your bridesmaids, or both? Or if anyone else has any info- Thanks!
