In today’s beehive:

  • jenn is looking for a reputable place in nyc to update the setting for an heirloom diamond ring.
  • K wants to know if less people will attend an intimate weekday wedding.
  • Brooklynbride2007 is looking for pictures of bridesmaids carrying lanterns.
  • BkB is wondering whether there is a difference in fabric between Watters and Watters bridesmaids dresses and wedding dresses.
  • g is wondering what glue works best for binding glass to glass? Hot glue hasn’t worked out.
  • Jasmine is looking for the best site to print photo thank you cards.

G- Glass glue is available at places like Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, or hardware stores like Home Depot and Westlake. We’re using it to attach vintage plates to cheap candleholders–instant cake stands!!!

Jenn - for settings, you can never go wrong with Leon Mege (www.artofplatinum.com) - his work is exquisite and it can be as plain or ornate as you like. And his prices aren’t too bad for custom work.

BkB: I didn’t actually notice *too* much of a difference between the wedding gown & bridsmaid watters dresses. They don’t have as much detailing, and are less heavy (so I’m assuming a bit thinner fabric). However, that might actually work better for some of the gowns. I wasn’t impressed with the taffeta that some of the bridesmaid dresses were made of, but the other fabrics seemed fine.

Jasmine - shutterfly.com does an awesome job on photo cards! I definitely recommend them!

I second Leon Mege. He will do the ring justice, but be careful. He does take awhile. At least a month.

friday weddings have become very popular… the hubbs & i just shot 2 friday weddings back to back…

we shot one thursday wedding before, but it was a small wedding (about 20 people)… if you’re going for a weekday wedding… i would only consider friday… unless you’re going for a small intimate wedding…

I’ve seen someone use winkflash.com for their wedding thank you cards — it seems pretty economical!

Kanipark–we’re having a Friday wedding, and I’d always thought it was super unusual–I’m glad to hear otherwise especially from someone in the business!!!

fizz- thanks for the info! both the bridesmaid and wedding dresses that i like are in duchess satin. saving over $600 by buying a white bridemaid’s dress might be a great option.

Hi! am wondering if ppl have used any “day of” wedding coordinators and what they thought, or if anyone didnt have one and regretted it. also if you used one, around what was the cost? my wedding is coming up in the fall and am trying to figure out if this is something i should “splurge” on…

thanks so much!

OK, I thought my day-of coordinator was GREAT when I first met her. She was a total class act, and she recommended the best vendors in town.

Well, she was a flop the day-of. She did not work well with the church coordinator at ALL. She was snippy to some guests. I wish I would have called her former brides before hiring her to talk with them about her.

Also, I think she recommended the florist because she was a friend, and I was not real pleased with her.

Bottom line: call references, and be very specific, the one thing I could have been more specific on was the ceremony.

I chose my coordinator because she won a “Best Of” award in my state’s bridal magazine.
Just realize those awards are a big joke.

Good luck.
