Last weekend we left Mens Wearhouse with a pretty good idea of the kind of tuxedo we wanted to get. At least, I did. Once we got home, Mr. Spider continued his pining (read: whining) for the “british” tuxedo he has said he’s wanted since the giddy up. I was a bit adverse to the idea because I thought the look might be too formal for our day wedding. It turns out that I was mistaken.
What is a cutaway coat? When do I wear a cutaway coat?
Cutaway coats, also commonly referred to as “morning coats,” are worn during the day and are not to be worn after sundown. These coats do not have satin lapels and are available in black and gray.
The gray coat is worn with gray striped slacks and is the traditional attire for morning weddings. The black coat is worn with black tuxedo slacks and is acceptable attire for any part of the day.
Once we learned that it was not only acceptable but appropriate for the men to don James Bond-esque attire, everything fell into place quickly. Our sale person was superb and the service we got from her and the rest of the team at the Bayside, Queens (Bay Terrace Mall) location was amazing. They broke everything down, offered just the right amount of input, supported our choices, joked with us, asked about our wedding and honeymoon and even told Mr. Spider he had “an athletic build.”
Here is a preview of what the boys will look like:

Mr. Spider will wear a gray tux with striped pants and an ascot. The rest of the wedding party will wear vest and ties, of the same pattern, in different colors.

The groomsmen will wear black tuxes with pink vest/ties.

The dads will wear black tuxes with gray vest/ties.

My brother will wear a black tux with silver vest/tie.
Now for the best part. Amazingly the cutaway tuxes are only $89.99 to begin with, so we had a good number to work with. We used the $20 off each rental coupon I printed from their website but since the grooms tux is always free, we decided to pass along the discount of the free tux to the gang as well. But wait, Mr. Spider decided to pay for all the tuxes first to make things easier so he got a $50 coupon for spending more than $500 and the cow jumped over the moon, yeah I know. Let’s look at it this way:
Tuxedo: $89.99
Coupon 1: $20.00
Free Grooms Tux: $10.00 (a savings of $89.99 distributed among 9 people)
Coupon 2: $5.55 ($50 coupon distributed among 9 people)
Total plus tax and deposit: approx. $65 a person
TOTAL DEAL if you ask me. We were so happy with the price and with the service, I wanted to hug everyone in the store. We left with the biggest smiles on our faces.
