Random Thought

September 6th, 2006 @ 1:00 pm by Miss Sunflower

Relatives keep pointing out how I need to incorporate more pastels because my wedding is in April and people associate that time of year with Easter.

I have a sudden fear that someone is going to show up dressed as the Easter Bunny.

Thats funny. I’m getting married near Christmas, and I really DON’T want a red and green/christmas themed wedding. My mother jokingly suggested that we have Santa Claus marry us.

Why, oh, why do people (especially relatives) try to push their opinion on brides? I once read that brides are not bridezillas by nature. It’s the people around them that make them. My grandmother is the one who’s “criticizing” my every decision, and I just know she’s going to stroke when we don’t do traditional family pictures. LOL! To date she’s questioned my reception location, my color choice, and my flowers. Sheesh….

My wedding is in April also and I am not using pastel colors at all. I say go with what you like!

Becky-O, I feel you! I spent the weekend listening to my family’s “opinions”. My grandma wasn’t so vocal, she just made a lot of faces. I don’t want to sound like a bridezilla, but I just want to tell them that all I need is their RSVP, not their opinion!

it’s your wedding. forget what everyone else says. just do what we did as teenagers: nod, smile, and then turn around and do whatever we want

I agree with Kanipark, easter bunny and yellow chicks could be cute. :) Just kidding. it’s your wedding so make sure you please yourself and not others. My wedding will also be in April and on easter weekend! Like you, I wasn’t sure about pastels. I prefer brighter colors and didn’t want to feel like I am hosting a spring party. But now I am totally for the easter theme, I think it could be cute. If you decide to go with pastel or easter theme here is a link for easter theme ideas.

for some reason this made me think of the scene in bridget jones diary where she shows up to a party dressed up in a bunny costume. ;)

LOL - I agree, Bee. That’s what I had in my head while I was writing the entry, actually.

I decided with this “victorian lilac” color with different shades of purple and hints of cream for the decor. As it turns out, Easter is March 23 in 2008. I can probably get away with not having an egg hunt during the reception.

How funny, Miss Sunflower! I’m sorry at laughing at your pain, though…

I’m having decidedly wintry colors for my May wedding (cobalt blue and silver, with ivory and black accents), but luckily for me, weddings aren’t usually a big deal in my family so I don’t think they’ll know any better ;-)

I have already made a few concessions on food and decor, though…definitely against my will ::sigh::

I think people offer opinions just to hear themselves talk. Personally, I would never select “pastels” as a word I’d want associated with my wedding, no matter what time of year it is. And thats coming from a girl with a “gradient pink” theme.

Some people actually expect you to listen, though! I agree with Becky-O - if I’m a bridezilla, I was made that way. For example, check out the response I got IMMEDIATELY after I asked one friend to be a BM:
“Of course I will, oh you’re making me cry - what color are you putting me in? Don’t put me in pink”
Me: “What if I want to put you in pink?”
BM: “Then I’ll have to back out.”

Wow. What a B*%$#.
