The Photobooth

September 8th, 2006 @ 9:17 am by Mrs. Firefly

I decided to forgo traditional favors and have a photobooth instead. I went with NYC Photobooth and found them very easy to work with. The owners scoped out Battery Gardens before the wedding to be sure that the logistics were set, and on the day of the wedding they set up the photobooth early so that they would be out of my hair.

The photobooth wasn’t cheap — around $1600 for 5 hours — certainly more than I would have spent on favors. Was it worth it? Yes and no. Some of my guests loved it and the photobooth was very popular during the cocktail hour. But once guests moved upstairs for dinner, only the diehards went back down to take more pictures. I think the photobooth would have gotten much more use if all of the wedding events were on the same floor. I did wind up with a great photo guest book, but I probably could have gotten a somewhat similar result with a polaroid camera. A

I would much rather take a photo strip than a favor from a wedding. But yah… quite pricey. Photobooth pics are so cute!

Oh and h… we featured those cupcakes last week!

Mrs. Firefly, i also love the idea of a booth like that too!! i saw it at some bridal expo and was all “i *must* have it!”
but i’m in the same multi-level boat as you. i appreciate hearing how it actually worked out logistically–esp. since our dinner and cocktail hour are three stories apart.

I have been wanting to do a photobooth, but hadn’t actually heard any reviews from someone who had one. Thanks for posting this! And your guestbook looks wonderful. One question…Did guest fix the strips in the book themselves, or did you do it later? Just wondering about logistics! Thanks!

I absolutely love this idea. It’s entertaining and original, but probably won’t be for too much longer! What a great concept.

Bluebird — NYC photobooth did everything. They set up the strips and put little wedding do-hickies (craft store like thing-ies) on every page of the Kolo album. Because my wedding was small (around 110 guest) and not quite all of the guests put a strip in the book (I yelled at one friend), only around 2/3 of the book is full.

I wanted to do a photobooth too… but decided against it. Not worth it for my wedding since we’ll only have 50 people.

I am using a photobooth in July, and I was wondering about your photo guestbook in particular. It looks like you pre-made the photo spots witht he corners? Or, did you just set out the materials and leave it up to the guests OR did you put it all together after the fact? :O)

A photo booth is a great addition to your wedding. I haven’t been to a wedding yet where I haven’t had one or more recent brides tell me how much they wished they’d known about a photo booth for their wedding.

It really does make a great favor, and the best part is how the bride and groom can enjoy the pictures later and see how much fun their guests had.

We are in California and offer photo booth rentals starting at $900 for 4 hours. If anyone has any questions, please call me at 916.384.6113

I really wanted a photobooth for our wedding but had to do some serious convincing to get my fiance to go along with it. By the end of the wedding night, we thought that the money was very well spent, and our guests kept telling us how cool it was. We got Cheesy Photobooths for our wedding, and their prices for Southern California were actually the lowest that we could find. They threw in A LOT of extras too for free (scrapbook, CD, custom banner, etc.) so we actually felt like we got a better bargain in the end.

Holy Smokes - I just found out that people do this Photobooth for weddings as a business. My daughter is getting married in Oct & I’m the “planner” & have already decided to do something like this ourselves. I bought the guestbook from http://www.guestbookstore.com/ & got a personalized book with a blank spot for a picture. Then I went on Ebay & bought a Canon Selphy CP510 photo printer for $50. - then to AC Moore with my 1/2 price coupon & picked up the photo greeting cards. We plan on hiring a friend of a friend to take the pictures & print them at the reception. I’ll use my extra digital camera that takes a gorgeous picture. At the guestbook site they also recommend an instant camera - but I thought it would be easier to print 2 on the Canon printer. We’ll can do the Bridal party the night before at the rehearsal dinner. Haven’t worked out all the logistics yet, but it’s cost less than $200 so far, with the guest book being the most expensive part. I’ve never seen this done before, so it will be new to us - but not quite as unique as I thought. :)
