the author that wrote the short blurb about declining any future weddings falling on 3 day weekends is a BRAT and should never have the honor of being invited to someone’s wedding!

Are 3 day weekends really that inconvenient for people to travel for a wedding? I always enjoy going to weddings over long weekends because I don’t have to miss work (or take a vacation day) and I can go out and explore the area.

I came here just to say what you did, cacee and nhi! We scheduled our wedding on a 3-day weekend for just that reason: we want guests to have fun and feel relaxed, especially since so many are travelling and our city is great for tourism ayway.

I usually don’t make big holiday plans on three day weekends… I usually just plan on staying home and doing some spring/fall cleaning. So I don’t really mind weddings on 3 day weekends either. But I can understand how some people might feel it’s an imposition… it might be their mini holiday to relax, and travel fees are generally much higher over holidays.

I’m in the camp that doesn’t make big holiday plans, but we made sure not to pick a date over a long weekend for the reasons Mrs. Bee listed above. Travel is generally more expensive (and more of a hassle), and while we don’t do a whole lot, I know some people have standing holiday plans.

People who already have plans for a long weekend should just not accept a wedding invitation if it just means that they are going to whine about it later. We just got married last weekend, Labor Day Weekend, and we were not offended by people who regretted they could not come because of prior plans!

in regards to the three day weekend article - heaven forbid someone should have a wedding that comes between the author and her plans to relax and have fun during such a weekend! silly me thought weddings were fun and that three days to travel was less stress than traveling in two days! i agree with the above poster that she’s a brat and i think the people that send her the next invite are lucky to have her decline!

I completely agree with what the above posts have said… reading that article actually hurt my feelings! I’m getting married next Memorial Day weekend… a main reason for this is because the vast majority of our guests will be coming from out of town… including several in the wedding party and my fiance’s immediate family. I personally never have big plans for a holiday weekend and feel that if one of my guests would rather do something else, then so be it. You can’t make EVERYone happy!

The baseball wedding held at Jacob’s Field (home of the Cleveland Indians!!) was front-page news here in Cleveland… the bride’s dress was very pretty… white trimmed in bright red (one of the Indians’ colors) on the bodice, bottom, and train… a very unique wedding, to say the least!

I think it’s fine you want to have your wedding over a 3 day weekend, but be understanding to your guests who won’t be able to make it. I think if you’re young and single, it’s easy to make it to a wedding on a 3day weekend, but just remember it’s not easy for everyone. A lot of people like to spend those holiday weekends with family.
