My Publisher Review: Another Perspective

September 12th, 2006 @ 6:00 pm by Guest

After our engagement ceremony (an honored tradition in the Vietnamese culture), we wanted to make albums of the day for our parents to express our gratitude. Originally, we wanted to order one of their deluxe hardcover albums for us and 3 of their classic hardcovers for our families.

After making my pages using Photoshop, we uploaded the JPEGs using MyPublisher software. This process wasn’t too bad but I would recommend using some photo editing software to create your layout, as MyPublisher’s layouts are rather limited. Upon time for purchase, we learned rather quickly that you can only order one type of book at a time. Since Weddingbee had posted a buy one get one free coupon, we decided to maximize the coupon and order 2 of the Deluxe Hardcovers and submit a second order for 2 of the Classic Hardcovers. (Please note their coupons are on a per email basis… so if you want to use the coupon multiple times, use a different email when placing the order).

The first order was uploaded and we got the confirmation email. The email confirms that the order was received and does not summarize what you ordered, just how much you owe them. We went to upload the second order only changing the size of the albums and out email address and nothing else.

Well, in the middle of the uploading process, their server timed out, which can happen and was understandable. We contacted them by chat to verify that the order was not completed. They do not have a number so you can’t call — the other option is to email them. The person we chatted with was not helpful at all. She kept blaming the server disconnect on the Internet Browser we were using — which to us did not make sense as the first order went through just fine using the same exact Internet Browser.

Anyhow, after a while, she confirmed that the order was not received and told us to re-upload. So we did. Again, we used the same pictures, same order form but only changed the size of the albums. (Note: they do not combine orders to save on shipping, in case anyone is wondering).

Well, we received our books today: 2 Deluxe Hardcovers in Celery (default color on order forms) and 2 Classic Hardcovers in Ivory (original orders - Ivory). We contacted them by email (chat was down this morning) and told them of the inconsistency. Their reply was non-responsive — they merely confirmed that the books were delivered to the shipping address.

Their chat was finally up so we addressed the issue there, to which the reply was: “I can see the order was placed with the ivory linen cover. At this time we can reprint the books with the celery linen cover with a 50% customer courtesy discount.”

My (censored) reaction was “WHAT?! You want me to pay for your mistake?” He/She replied: “Again I am sorry for the trouble we put you through. You can also submit feedback through a survey with the option to win a free book.” Being baffled and fed-up with the matter-of-fact responses from them, we ended the chat. We know we gave up and did not put up a fight. But showing how upset/mad we were in words over a chat was not getting anywhere.

Summary: We will not order from them again. The ordering hassles - not being able to place different album orders at one time is crazy - and their lack of customer service is enough for us to take our money elsewhere.

We don’t mind the celery cover. As to the quality of the albums, they were better than expected. The pictures were printed on a glossy, heavier stock paper (not as thick as cardstock but not thin like a magazine — somewhere in between). If the fiance doesn’t object to his pics being posted on Weddingbee, I’ll send pics later for ya’ll. :)

Sorry you had such a bad experience! I’ve heard both raves and rants about My Publisher - raves about the quality, and rants about the customer service so thanks for sharing your story with us!

i’ve not used My Publisher, but I have used the KodakGallery (www.kodakgallery.com) Photo Book publisher to great success! and the one time out of many we hit a snafu with the order they shipped out a new one next day priority mail - for free! All the whiel their customer service rep was apologizing profusely for the mixup…

Errrg–what a frustrating experience!@ I hate it when “customer service” gets you nowhere at all. Glad the product’s OK, even if it’s not exactly what you’d wanted. Now I know to stay away from them too–thanks for sharing this w/ us!

I’m the one that wrote the first MyPublisher review… We had a great customer service experience with them, though we didn’t use the chat. The first time they shipped us the books, there was an extra blank page (their fault), so I emailed their customer support (at like 6pm, after work hours), and got a response with a solution within 20 minutes. Every time I replied to an email pressing for more clarification in writing, I got almost-instaneous responses. And then they fixed the problem and shipped us our perfect albums within a few days.

So I guess I’m recommending that you use their customer service email address — it’s not often that I find a corporate customer service person who is as anal about checking his email as I am! They do seem to have a spotty customer service record, but I just wanted to reiterate our positive experience with them… I swear I don’t work for them. :)

AGH!!!! That makes me SO ANGRY!

The same thing (similar) happened to me. THEY SUCK. I uploaded my album, but there’s no way to preview it - and it said it had uploaded 100%, but when I got it, the last page was blank!

And they took absolutely NO responsibility for it.

I design wedding albums, but I REFUSE to use them for any clients.

JERKS.

I used Mypublisher, ordered 10 books, was happy about the service and order was completed to expectations. Must say though, the black and white pictures looked better on the computer, they came out darker in print,. Some of the piictures were cut off due to the binding, i dont think they took the binding into consideration when laying out the pictures. THe glued on picture on the cover wont last for long. overall, I heard of some other companies out there that do a better job for half the cost. First time experience with them was satisfactory
