Dear Weddingbee,
Sorry, this is a little long but the story wouldn’t be the same without the detail:
It was October 7, 2005, our 5 year anniversary, and Patrick had been working in Steamboat, Colorado the previous 11 days. He called me the night before our anniversary and told me there was a very bad snow storm passing, and he might not be able to fly out. I was disappointed but thankful that he was being cautious. The morning of our anniversary he called and said all flights were cancelled so he would try to get home the following day.
I went about my morning and got to work at 7am. At 9:30am I received a dozen pink roses with a custom card with our picture. On the back was a movie quote and it read “I love you. You complete me.- Jerry Maguire.” I thought it was really sweet of him to send me flowers even though he was stuck in Colorado.
10:30 am rolled around and I received a dozen white roses with another card, a different picture of us and a movie quote. It read “Take love, multiply it by infinity and take it to the depths of forever…and you still only have a glimpse of how I feel for you.- Meet Joe Black.” So now I thought, “Why would I get 2 dozen? Maybe I am getting 5 dozen roses for our 5 year anniversary.”
11:30 am, yet another dozen roses. This time they were yellow. The movie quote read, “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as quickly as possible.- When Harry Met Sally”
At 12:30 pm I received a dozen peach colored roses. Another picture and movie quote. The movie quote was, “Look, I guarantee there will be tough times. I guarantee that at some point one or both of us is going to want out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know in my heart you are the one for me- Runaway Bride”
By the time it was 1:30pm I was just expecting the last dozen roses to get delivered by the same man who delivered the other 4. I was talking to a girlfriend, telling her about my roses and movie quotes, turned my head and saw Patrick (his family and my family all walking behind him) carrying the 5 th and final bouquet or red roses. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with everyone around us.
It turns out he had come home on Wednesday, the 5th of October and fooled my parents into thinking they were meeting his parents for dinner. When my parents showed up to the restaurant, Patrick was waiting there to ask my parent’s permission to marry me.
