Most Romantic Entry 21

September 14th, 2006 @ 10:06 am by Mrs. Bee

I know this is supposed to be a contest for the most romantic thing your fiance has ever done for you, but I wanted to share my most romantic thing I’ve ever done for HIM! Ok brace yourself, this might be long! :)

My inspiration came from the movie, Amelie. My guy isn’t big on birthday celebrations. Of course, being a big planner, I *still* wanted to top last year’s birthday surprise for him (a surprise birthday party). So I had rented out a hotel suite at the W for the night and planned a candlelit picnic for the 2 of us. The home-made course included: tuna tartare over crab cake appetizers, rosemary lamb chops over roasted garlic couscous entree with zucchini and cherry tomato custard and lemon asparagus with pine nuts.

The thing is, I did not tell him what we were doing, because the plan was for him to find me! In comes the inspiration from Amelie. So during the week, I had taken 8 pictures of myself in my Zorro hat, mask, and cape holding 8 different letters of the alphabet all around the city of places we had been to. I planned 8 different spots around his large 1 bedroom apt and car to hide every picture. Behind every picture was a one-word clue for him to figure out where I placed the next picture. Once he found all 8 pictures, he had to unscramble the letters I was holding and then email me the “secret code” (it was “I love you”).

After I got the email, I told him the last clue of where to find his CD invitation. When he popped in the CD invitation, it went right into a slideshow (equipped with music) of “the two of us.” At the end, I showed him a map of a street corner where he had to meet me on the day of his birthday at a specific time and corner (still not knowing what I was planning).

An hour before he was to meet me, I set the room up with candles all along the wall of the room and purple rose petals scattered around the picnic blanket where we were going to eat. Once he got to the street corner to meet me, I had paid a random guy (I found in Starbucks — who was supernice!) to help me by being my messenger. I was hiding in a Starbucks across the street and I gave the random man an envelope to give to him, then I ran all the way to the W to light my candles. In the envelope, was the hotel key.

As soon as he opened the door to the suite, I was standing there in the candlelight with a small birthday cake. He was so shocked and LOVED my fun birthday clues for him! And it was really fun to plan…

Thu, what a cute story! Kudos to you for reversing the stereotypes and planning an extravagant romantic surprise for HIM. =o)

We’re much the same way. Mr Ant takes care of me in little everyday ways, but isn’t very good with elaborate romantic gestures. But I love planning games and surprise dinners and whatnot, so it works out!

Wow, you are SO thoughtful! Maybe I should try and do something like this for my guy. You know, instead of a wedding planner, you should become a romantic event planner! :-D
