Poll: Were You Surprised?

September 14th, 2006 @ 1:08 pm by Mrs. Bee

Reading all these romantic proposals that involve elaborate planning and surprises got me to thinking about how many people actually know that a proposal is coming. Mr. Bee and I had a long distance relationship, and I must admit I knew a proposal would happen the weekend that it did. But I’m pretty darn hard to surprise. ;)

When your fiance proposed, did you know it was coming?

MY BF proposed this weekend! :) :)

I knew it was coming at some point because we looked at rings, but that was 4 months ago. The elaborate planning that he put into the entire weekend to make it a surprise was so impressive, especially for someone who doesn’t like to plan ahead at all.

I only assumed it was possibly coming after I received the 3rd dozen bouquet. I thought he would do it that night, so I was surprised he came to work.

My bf finally proposed this weekend too! We already already started our wedding planning (due to time and things booking up fast there). He did kinda surprise me because he liked and said that the custom ring was taking much longer than expected. :)

It’s a major life decision, and I don’t think I would have liked being surprised. Technically I didn’t know what day he was going to give me the ring, but we went and bought it together, and we’re planning everything else together.

We had been talking about marriage since we first started dating, and last summer he said he wanted to be engaged by Christmas… but Christmas came around and it hadn’t happened, and then, he did it two weeks later, in January! I’m glad he caught me off gaurd and decided not to do it at Christmas. But I knew that we would be getting engaged soon, so it wasn’t a total shock.

We went ring shopping together, so I definitely knew it was coming. The nice dinner + carriage ride had me thinking it might happen that night… but then it seemed like it might not, so I just decided to make the most of the evening, and then it happened! So I guess it was a little bit of both.

The only surprise for us was what time the Fed Ex guy would come by with the ring that he had ordered months ago. I have the same attitude as fizzy, accepting a proposal is one of the most important life decisions and I wanted us to go through the process together, not have one person spring it as a suprise on the other.

Yup, clearly just a typo since I spelled it correctly in my first sentence.

I have a question, as opposed to a comment. My boyfriend asked me if there was a specific knee (right vs. left) that is used when proposing?
