Update on My Last Update

September 15th, 2006 @ 10:00 am by Mrs. Ladybug

All I can say is WOW!

My last entry on giving me something to write about opened up a family sized soup can of whoop ass for me! To hear so many brides stuck on so many things makes me sad. We know what we have to do but where do we start!? Why isn’t wedding planning made easy for us like a one stop shop?

I remember that feeling of not knowing where to start, or who to contact first, or what questions to ask. The worst is when you ARE new to this whole wedding planning craze, a vendor gives you an estimate and you think they’re trying to rip you off. But after some research you find out it’s the going rate and then you think “Are you EFFIN kidding me?! What you talkin bout Willis?!”

Oh, oh, and let’s not forget the man that planted that rock on your finger, your sweetie pie, your pookie who is now harping down your back about “Why does your dress cost this much?” “I’m sorry, did you just say $150 per head? You crazy?!” and blah blah blah…. Shut up! You don’t ever yell that out, but girls you know you want to!!! Hahahaha…..

Well relax! That’s what we’re here for. Booyakasha!

I’ll try to go through all your requests! I promise!

Love my guy to death, but he really has no clue how much anything costs or what etiquette dictates.

When I said we need to think about what to get our bridesmaids, he was genuinely shocked to learn we had to get them anything at all. He just stared at me with this blank look on his face, to which I responded with a curt, “We have to get our groomsmen something, too.” I mean, I’m not being frivolous here.

Let’s not even talk about vendor deposits. It’s like it’s a foreign concept to him that we have to secure these things well in advance of the wedding - not the week of. The burden and cost of wedding planning seems to have fallen to me and my wallet.

um d: what about his wallet? who’s paying for the wedding? you 2 or parents?

i think you really need to sit him down and explain things now before you go any further. i remember when i was breaking things down for my guy about the cost of things he was getting PISSED and not at me, at the weddign industry. hahaha….

he also didn’t know about giving our bridal party gifts. i’m like “they throw you a bachelor party, take time off from work, and pay for airline tickets, the girls plan my bridal shower, bacheloretty party, take time off of work, and help me all day during the wedding and you don’t want to give any of them any sort of a thank you gift?

the key is to make them feel guilty. then they understand.

Mrs. Ladybug,

Our parents (both sides) and we are paying for the wedding. His parents and my parents have been fantastic, but he has been a bit difficult to get motivated when it comes to parting with the cash for the big day. I was finally so sick of trying to help him “get it,” that I started working exclusively with my mom to accomplish things.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s excited. He talks about being married all the time. I think he is just under the mistaken impression that a magical fairy-wedding mother will appear and make the whole thing happen.
