Bridal Shower Games Contest

September 20th, 2006 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Bee

With the Insolia Shoe Contest behind us and the Most Romantic contest coming to a close this Friday (get your last minute entries in!), it’s time for what else? Another contest of course!

We’ve featured Wedding Favorites on several occasions in the past, so we asked if they’d like to donate something for one of our contests. They’ve offered to give one winner a $50 gift certificate to purchase anything off their site! And since we love their mod party kits so much, we thought a bridal shower themed contest would be appropriate.

So send us your best bridal shower games (include pictures if you want!) to stories@weddingbee.com. It can be ones you’ve played or never played before. We’ll feature the best ones on weddingbee, and have readers vote for one winner. You can enter more than once, and the deadline for entries will be October 5th. Bring on the games!

This is my favorite shower game because you get to meet the other guests. Basically I walked into my friend’s shower and her sister gave everyone a safety pin and instructed us to pin it someplace visible on our clothing. The rules are (1)do NOT cross your legs-this is difficult when you’re a girl and in a skirt/dress (2) if you see someone cross their legs you walk up to them, call them on it and ask them for their pin (3) one with the most pins at the end wins. This went on for the most of the party and people from across the room would see someone crossing their legs and almost run all the way over to claim the leg-crosser’s pin. At one point it became a pretty heated competition between 3 ladies (1 younger and 2 older-Aunts of the bride). In the end one of the Aunts won.

We had each guest bring a panty for the bride and had the bride guess who the gift was from - for each one she got wrong - we punished her by having her chew bubblegum. (we punished another bride by placing stickers on her face) it was hilarious bc the selection was so far off from the people you’d expect it from!

one game I set up for my sister-in-law’s shower was called Race for the Ring… I bought several packs of girls’ party favor plastic rings in all different colors and hid them all around the rooms we were holding the shower in. I also bought a pack of these mega-huge plastic diamond rings (the “diamond” was the size of a golf ball, and it sparkled!). As guests arrived, they were let loose to find rings and place them on their fingers. The mega diamonds were worth 5 rings each, and the girl with the most rings at the end was the winner. Imagine around 20 women in their mid to late 20s running all around the room, fighting for rings, screaming “there’s a big one!” and everyone flocking to the hiding place… it was hilarious!

My favorite game is where someone asks the bride questions about her fiance and for every question she gets wrong, she puts a piece of gum in her mouth (bubblelious is great cuz they are big pieces) My sister play with game for my bachelorette party and she sectioned it off into 3 categories, Things I Should Know, Things I Might Know, Things I Probably Don’t Know. It also gets the fiance involved, which is always fun.

It’s not really a game, more of an activity I guess, but the shower I threw really seemed to enjoy it. Ahead of time, I asked the bride’s fiance for 24 reasons that he loved her. Then I bought 2 dozen roses (to be used as the centerpiece on the food table, I love cutting costs!) and tied a small piece of paper to each rose in matching color so it didn’t stand out too much.

At the end of the shower, I grabbed the vase, handed it to her, and told her that it was her fiance’s time to shine. She was confused because she didn’t even see the paper, so she was suprised! She sat down and read them one by one. Some were funny (you bought me my favorite star wars movie) and some were sweet (you are the most beautiful girl I know).

I thought this one was cool because it gave all the girls an intimate look into their relationship while reminding all of us why we were really there to celebrate!

for one of my college friends, the maid of honor wrote out “The Story of Jes and Jim” (bride and groom) and turned it into a madlib. We were all given sheets to fill out adjectives, nouns, verbs, etc. Afterward, we took turns reading our completed stories. It was a lot of fun because we all tried to guess how the story would go and put in adjectives we thought were appropriate (they were both on the crew team, so there were a lot of rowing references) but were so far off.

Before my bridal shower, my bridesmaids asked me for 20 pictures of my fiance and I in different locations. I included everything from right after he proposed, to favorite date nights, to vacations and holidays. They shrunk all the pictures down so each girl as all the pictures on her piece of paper and they had to guess where my fiance and I were in each one. They had to look in the background of each picture for clues. It was a big hit and a fun way to get to share some of our favorite memories with the women at the shower.

The purse game is always a hit at showers. IT’s kind of like “lets make a deal”. Beforehand you write a list of items that may , or may not be found in a woman’s purse along with values for each item ( pen, mints, lipstick, condom, tampon etc.) Then, once at the party you read off the list and have the ladies keep track of their own points. They must show you the item to score the points. Whoever has the most points at the end of the list wins. Every woman carries a purse…and the odd items really get a laugh.

I don’t know the purpose of this game but at my first bridal shower that my aunts gave me we played this. There was a large bowl of uncooked rice and a bunch of safety pins (closed) dumped in. Each person takes a turn being blindfolded and then they have a minute to dig out as many safety pins as they can. It sounds like it would be easy but it is hard! It’s crazy how you can’t tell what is rice and what is a safety pin! I only got 2 in 1 minute.

I threw a bridal shower for my FSIL this past Febuary that was a hit. Out of the 4 games we played the fav amoung everyone was the Wedding Cake game. Each table was a group (about 5 guests) they were given a pound cake, some eddible glitter, cake decor, icing and all the good fixings. They were given 10 mintues to create the best wedding cake, of which the bride chose!! The guests along with the bride had a great time..and the guests still talk about it and have used since then!

here’s another activity that we did at my sister in law’s shower… her favorite color has been, is, and always will be pink (along with the color scheme of the wedding). so i went to the craft store and bought tons and tons of pink beads, all different shades and shapes, and some faux pearls and each guest made a bracelet to take home as a favor. after everyone was done with their bracelet, people went on to make anklets, rings and cell phone pendants too. it was the quietest hour (yes, HOUR!) of the whole day as everyone concentrated on their beading. my sister in law and i wore our bracelets from that day on our ankles on the wedding day!

Mrs. Bee,
Can I make a suggestion about the contests? I think contests are a great idea, but is there any way you and the other bloggers narrow things down before they get posted. It gets overwhelming with so many entries that I stop reading the later ones. The entries start seeming similar. I noticed that people tend to comment less on the later entries. You are doing a great job, I tell all my friends to read your site!

For this contest, and from now on… we will be narrowing it down to the best ones and the readers will vote on the finalists.

Mrs. Bee - Great Idea on the bridal shower contest. I think it is serving a greater purpose - which is giving shower-hostesses ideas to use for their parties. =)
