Beehive

September 21st, 2006 @ 1:56 pm by Beehive

In today’s beehive:

  • Peony wants to know how to create a slideshow. Do you use powerpoint or another program?
  • Michelle wants to know what people are giving their bridesmaids.
  • snowbride is having an outdoor December wedding, and she needs a short, formal coat preferably with no fur. Any suggestions on where to look?
  • M is looking for a place in the city to purchase “will you be my bridesmaid” cards.

To add your question to the beehive, leave a comment below and we’ll update this post to include your question. See all past beehives here.

If you have a Mac, iPhoto has an easy to use slideshow.

I have an outdoor ceremony in December and I need a coat to wear with my dress-something short and formal, preferably not fur.
Any suggestions on where to look?

We have a destination wedding-I am giving my bridesmaids LL bean tote bags with their names on them-they will get those filled with goodies similar to what we are putting in the welcome bags-plus, I had jewelry made for them to match their outfits.

I’m giving my BMs a necklace and earrings from Creme-de-luxe (absolutely gorgeous!) and a cute make-up bag with a emory board, lip gloss, and a silver compact.

I’m giving mine necklaces (from smallthingsdesigns.com), Mudlark Luxe bath sets and gift certificates to the spa at our reception site/hotel.

We’re also going to try to pay for their dresses and matching purses. We’re fortunate that we only have 3 bridesmaids - including our Maid of Honor.

Adobe Premiere is a great program to use for slideshows and photo montages.

Check out the free DL from Microsoft called Photo Story 3 for a slideshow. The neat thing is that you can pan across a photo to make it look like a video shot. Pretty easy to use and you can also add music. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx

michelle, a friend of mine gave her BMs necklaces from tiffanys that they wore on the wedding day. when i was a BM for my cousin’s wedding, she did something similar; matching necklace and earrings for all the BMs.

Michelle - as a three time bridesmaid (coming up on my fourth turn), I have to say the best option is to pay for the dress, or part of it, or to pick up some of the other expenses (shoes, hair & makeup, travel). Being a bridesmaid is very expensive, and I would rather have less of a financial burden to bear than jewlery, etc. If your bridesmaids are all dripping with money, or if you are already picking up the tab for the dresses, then I would say to not get the same thing for each bridesmaid. Instead, set yourself a price range and act as if you were shopping for birthday presents - that way each girl will get something perfect just for her!

snowbride - you could get a cream or white wool coat (or a bright colorful one for some contrast). Victoria’s Secret online and Nordstrom have some very nice ones, e.g. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2891170/0~2376776~2374327~2374337~6004084?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6004084&P=3

A cashmere wrap could be great too. Nordstrom has a few in their “Cashmere” section.

Depending on how long you’ll need to be outside, a lighter weight formal jacket (check mother of the bride sections) might be a good choice.

My BMs are going to get some sort of mani/pedi/15 minute massage thing for their gift–or maybe their hair or makeup (once I figure out how expensive that will be). I’m also looking for vintage salt and pepper shakers for a little token that they can take with them. Plus I work at a beauty company so they will probably get some makeup as well.

For all the ladies who are still looking for that perfect dress (at the perfect price)

In the New York Magazine for this week, under “Sales and Bargains”, there is a listing for MIKA INATOME.

“Bridal gowns from past seasons are up to 90% off. 93 Reade Street near Church St, 2nd floor (212-966-7777) Sept 22 through Sept 30, by appointment only”

My bridesmaids are my sisters, so I’m giving them super dear and near to our hearts gifts. Our grandfather passed away 6 years ago. He always wore a horseshoe diamond ring. So as a rememberance of Grandpa, I’m giving each of us (yeah, I had to have one too) this necklace (http://images.redenvelope.com/is/image/production/H05_145729_W?nanos=770&qlt=75,0&resMode=sharp&op_usm=0.5,1.0,0.0,0&wid=250&hei=250) from Red Envelope. We’ll be wearing pearls for the wedding, but I will have my horseshoe in the pocket of my dress (yeah, it has a pocket).

My BMs are FH’s 3 sisters & my MOH is my BF since forever - so we got them something special. For the BMs (FH’s sisters) we got them diamond initial pendants (www.ice.com) and for my MOH we got her diamond circle earrings (to match her diamond circle pendant). We hope they love them..I know I would like either of these as a gift. HTH
