H+M: The Ceremony

September 21st, 2006 @ 5:49 pm by Mrs. Bee

I was waiting for the groom to give me the ok to post pictures from the wedding Mr. Bee and I attended last weekend in Martha’s Vineyard. He emailed me all the way from his honeymoon in Ireland to give me the go ahead. :)

After a stormy Friday that caused us to miss the ferry out to Martha’s Vineyard, Hylton and Mimi could not have asked for more perfect weather the following Saturday. The ceremony was held right in front of the water.

Hylton and Mimi’s ceremony included so many elements that made it personal and unique. One of my favorite things they did is, they had family members serve as their best men, matrons of honor, flowergirls of honor, and ringbearer. But they also had over a dozen of their closest friends walk down the aisle as “bridesmaids,” “groomsmen,” and “flowergirls.”

The 7 flowergirls hanging out before the wedding. The two flowergirls of honor are differentiated by the blue sashes on their dresses.

You can’t really tell, but the programs were letterpressed with H+M on the cover - a themed carried throughout all their wedding stationery.

The groom’s two brothers looking dapper in beige suits with navy ties, walking their mother looking fierce in fuschia down the aisle.

The “bridesmaids” and “groomsmen” - some carried their babies down the aisle too. The bridesmaids were distinguished by wearing an orange shawl, and the groomemen wore navy jackets with khaki pants.

Here comes the ringbearer (loved his seersucker suit), flowergirls of honor, followed by the flowergirls.

Hylton and Mimi asked Mimi’s uncle to officiate their wedding. The only problem? He’s not an officiant! However, he was able to apply for some special status that lasted one day, and enabled him to marry the couple under Massachusetts law.

There were two funny moments during the ceremony: 1) a plane flew overhead during one of the readings drowning out the speaker; 2) one of the waitstaff knocked over champagne glasses set out on the table, causing a domino of falling glasses.

I live in Massachusetts - and it’s a gorgeous place to get married. I live on the coast, yet I’ve never been to the Vineyard!! I loved the idea of the wedding, though :) Also, the officiant rule in MA is so easy and nice. My mom’s best friend married her sister (well, married her sister and her sister’s husband, hehe) and it’s nice to have that family connection.
