Palmilla! Palmilla!

September 21st, 2006 @ 11:22 am by Mrs. Caterpillar

Mr. Caterpillar and I only had 4 days between our wedding/reception(s) and the wedding of the lovely Megses, so I figured we were going to stay somewhere relatively local for the minimoon — local meaning maybe we could find a tent or build a fort in my parent’s backyard. But, Mr. Caterpillar is a super genius, and he surprised me with a trip to One & Only Palmilla in Los Cabos.

1. The Villa — Casa Miramar

It’s a beachfront suite (beach on the other side) with a wrap around balcony. I think I cried when we had to leave for Los Angeles.

2. The Livingroom

Every evening at 5:30, our butler would bring cocktail snacks — mixed nuts and parmesan tuile, marinated cheese and croutons, or olives and spiced almonds. (These went with the giant bottle of tequila they gave us.) I miss the butler.

3. The Bathroom of My Dreams

We had two bathrooms in the villa. Who doesn’t love more than one bathroom? As well, Palmilla provides amazing toiletries packaged in schmancy stoppered bottles, everything is scented with blue agave.

4. The View from the Balcony

The table is large enough for six. We’d have breakfast and sometimes dinner out there. I’m a freak about sun, so I’m wearing a hat to do the crossword puzzle.

5. The Pool

Palmilla has two(!) infinity pools that look out over the ocean. You pick your favorite chair, and the pool concierge comes over with towels, bolsters, and pillows to make a personalized lounge chair. In my case, she also had to open two umbrellas. She also brings over two agave scented chilled towels, bottled water, and a bottle of cooling blue agave spray in case you overheat in the sun. There’s also a menu of sun products in case you forgot your own. And, every so often someone comes by with frozen chocolate icecream bonbons. (Please ignore my crazy person sunglasses in the picture.)

6. Favorite Things

Turndown service — includes aromatherapy, flower art (see above — also came with a little wooden bowl and tiny broom to sweep up the petals when your’e ready to sleep), bonbons, bottled water, and little clay sculptures of native plants.

Sewing kit — the butler customizes the sewing kit to match the colors of the clothing you’ve brought.

Greeting — it is H O T down there, so when you drive up, they have homemade fresh lime popsicles waiting for you. I used to just go up to the carport throughout the day and ask for the popsicles because I loved them so much.

Beach hammocks — you just sit and swing under a palm roof, and the surf comes up under the hammock.

P.S. I wish I could look that cute layin on a damn lounge chair with a big black hat! I would just look like a cancer patient trying to block out as much sun as I could on my poor little pale skin! hahaha
