Reader Buzz: Skincare

September 21st, 2006 @ 10:01 am by Mrs. Bee

We haven’t really done too much on make-up here at weddingbee, so I thought we’d start a series on favorite beauty products. It’ll be a great way for everyone to discover new products whether you’re doing your own wedding makeup, looking for a special pre-wedding party look, or just for fun.

Since skin is the foundation, lets start with skincare. I’ve mentioned before that I usually stick to plain old Dove Sensitive Skin Soap and Complex 15 face cream because of my eczema. But I also use a face wash w/ a Buf Puf sponge (great exfoliation) and a sunscreen face lotion from a line called Longevite that my dermatologist created. These products have kept my skin clear and glowing for the past 2 years - I totally swear by them.

Which skincare lines do you swear by?

I had a makeup trial with Jonathan at the YSL counter. He recommended that I try their exfoliator that has no granuals in it and use it about 2x a week for glowing skin. I bought it and have been using it since, and I LOVE it. My fiance notices how soft my face from it and it really has done wonders. More info on the product is in this InStyle feature:

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I have eczema and sensitive skin too. I use the dove soap and oil of olay moisterizer. It’s totally granny, but it’s one of the few things that doesn’t irritate my skin. When I try to buy fun / fancy things (like that jar of La Mer sitting in my cabinet) my skin freaks out!

I wish I have skin like Mrs.Bee! It’s too bad drugstore face products doesn’t work on my face very well =(

I love Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P3554&categoryId=B70 for exfoliator, they’re gentle so you can use it everyday.

I am currently using Phytomer HydraContinue Serum
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009V7GYS/sr=1-2/qid=1155780856/ref=sr_1_2/102-8104053-8891358?ie=UTF8&s=beauty before applying my face lotions/creams. I think any serum is good for your face. Use eye serum too before applying eye lotions/creams =)

My mom got Epoch Marine Mud
http://www.nuskin.com/corp/product/epoch/glacialmarinemud.shtml from a friend and now she’s using it, my brother and me. funny eh? We all like it. I like my mask to be muddy =)

Any of you ladies use Bliss face products? I only used their body products… is this good? Bliss Steep Clean Complete Set
http://www.blissworld.com/shop/detail/BLISS-SET131/ Thanks!

Oh and my girlfriends can’t live w/o CLARINS skin care products =)

Lily, LaMer cream does not work at all, don’t know why people called it the “miracle” cream.

I use the Arbonne product line. I moved to a more humid climate about a year ago and had all kinds of problems - so I invested in the whole freaking line and I love it. It has cleared my skin up and helped to control the oil.

I have used drugstore products until recently, when I switched to Clinique. People have actually noticed a difference in the appearance of my skin and have commented on it!

Miss Lilly, my great-grandmother, grandmother, mom, and aunt all use oil of olay and they have/had FABULOUS skin. My sister and I use it, too! Oil-free, sensitive skin formula is the best.

I use Origins checks and balance face wash - very gentle, and good for sensitive/combo skin.

I use the Arbonne line also. I had some fairly dark sun spots on my cheek from a really bad sunburn a couple of years ago and the Arbonne line has helped diminish the spots - people have noticed! Plus I love the smell ;)

Ok- so you may all think I am crazy but I use Proactive and I LOVE it!! I use the cleanser in the shower and the toner and moisturizer after I get out. I never really had acne, but I dealt with the occasional breakout- now my skin is 100% clear. I recommend it!

I like Kiss My Face organic products, which I find comparable to the much more expensive Boscia products. Very gentle and everything smells great!

I have some rosacea so I love my J&J Purpose Redness Reducing Moisturizer. For my hands, I love Glysomed hand cream.

I was blessed with really good skin that turned (yes, turned!) porcelain quality after puberty. That being the whole “Asian ideal,” I tried a lot of different creams and stuff. L’oreal’s exfoliating cleanser does wonders for me, but I moisturize with Sekkisho’s moisturizer. American creams can feel a bit heavy for me so I use this stuff from a Japanese line, but they are carrying it in the States now. You can find some at higher end Asian counters or I believe Saks and Barneys also carries items from their line.

I used Neutrogena for a while and people started calling me “Neutrogena” because my skin cleared up. I decided to switch to Mary Kay (which works well also) just because, I figure I need to start taking care of my skin before the wrinkles make their way to my face!

I wash my face with Neutrogena foaming face wash and use their gentle exfoliating gel (i think that’s what it’s called) twice a week. For moisturizing, I use Oil of Olay Total effects 7x for day and their Active hydrating cream at night. I hardly ever break out, but when I do, I use the ProActive repairing cream (swiped a bottle from my sister) overnight and it clears it right up - it’s great.

I worked at the beauty department of a magazine so I had (free) access to every product under the sun. I still say that Shiseido is great for Asian women. I also use Nu Skin which has a great Whitening set (comes with cleanser, serum and day & night moisturizer for those of us that are lack melanin, such as myself.

I use Burt’s Bees Lettuce toner every morning and night to wash my face. No water, just put a little toner on a paper towel, and wipe the face clean. Afterwards I apply Proactive Repairing Lotion for Sensitive Skin on my face, excluding the T-Zone, which is very dry for me. I apply a regular moisturizer to that area. I exfoliate with Proactive Gentle Cleaser twice a week. Lately, I’ve been taking a sauna/steambath at the Y everyday after my workout. I’ve noticed that my pores are much smaller, and my skin has a glow to it that it didn’t have before. Something about the sweating! It just makes my skin happy.

I used Vaseline as lotion for the longest time… It really helped me to smooth my skin, reduce pores size, and keep my skin glow. There were few times that ppl on the street actually came up and asked me what I use for my face. However, this was back in HS/college. Now, after few big investments in skin products, and tested out on my skin (I’ve ultra sensitive skin). I finally have my favorite skincare lines: I use Neutrogena’s Deep Clean cleanser to wash my face. I use a lot of Neutrogena products, and they all work pretty well. I use Kiehl’s cucumber herbal alcohol free toner. Kiehl’s is great for ppl who has sensitive skin. They advertise their line as “pharmaceutical, herbal, and medicinal knowledge developed and passed on through generations.” This toner helps to reduce my pores size and keep my face “watery” at all time. I use Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Intensive lifting creme as night cream, and apply Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Intensive lifting eye creme only at night. These two magic products are miracle to me! I am totally addicted to it, and cannot see myself use any other creams anymore. Even my facial therapist notices that my skin is glowing, she even said it’s almost flawless. However, the downside is the price tag is a bit high! =P As for daytime, I use Kiehl’s Ultra facial moisturizer SPF 15. This product is very gentle, water based lotion, so it is readily absorbed into my skin. Also, I use honey a lot. I use it to make my own facial mask once a week, and I drink one cup of honey water everyday. Honey is a source of antioxidants, so, it’s great for anti-aging! Most importantly, try not to wear make up everyday. To keep a healthy skin, you have to let it take a break, and let it breath!
