The Evolution of the Weddingbee Bride

September 22nd, 2006 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Bee

I thought it’d be pretty cool for weddingbee readers to get a behind the scenes glimpse of how the weddingbee bride came to be. Finding the right artist was tough, but when I stumbled upon Paige’s portfolio while blog surfing, I knew I wanted to work with her right away. Her fun, vibrant style just popped and it was an exact fit for weddingbee.

At first, I told Paige that I didn’t know whether I wanted a bee that was a bride or a regular human bride. These are just some of the rough character concepts she sent:

As cute as all the bee sketches were, after some thought I thought a human character would be best to stay away from anything that was too cute. Sketch F above immediately stood out as my favorite so I asked Paige to put it in color.

I didn’t want the bride to have blonde hair and blue eyes because it made me think of Barbie, so we went with brown hair and brown eyes. I also asked her to change the bouquet to classic red and make the veil shorter.

Just a few small tweaks - She darkened the hair, eyes, and skin, lengthened the train of the dress, hid the shoes, made the veil smaller, made the bee trail swirlier, and changed the bouquet to match my actual wedding bouquet.

This is the final weddingbee bride. The only change from the draft above is the eyebrows to make the bride’s expression softer. Ultimately I also decided not to use the bee flying out of the bouquet.

I absolutely love how the bride turned out! Paige is amazingly talented and did such a fantastic job. Unfortunately I don’t think she’s taking on any new projects at this time. It’s too bad because I’d recommend her to anyone! :)

Who would’ve thought that it went thru all those processes before the final weddingbee bride came to life!

Paige is so talented. All the sketches are cute and pretty in their own special way!

Dear WeddingBees,

I actually got to this site because I…I don’t even remember…but I do remember seeing a small picture of the weddingbee character, and I just clicked on it the sole reason that I thought she was so pretty and wanted to get a closer look! ^_^ I think she represents the pretty in all of us girls in the weddingbee community. Paige did an amazing job!
