About Mrs. Bee

Save My Ass

September 26th, 2006 @ 1:36 pm by Mrs. Bee

Save My Ass.com is a new service for men to send flowers to their girlfriends, fiances, and wives on a “regular but semi-random basis.” A guy sets the price level and schedules 10 deliveries for birthdays, anniversaries, and random just because occasions over a 12 month period. There’s even a “panic” button where he can select flowers based on the severity of the situation: from “Not too bad,” to “I need help” to “I’m afraid for my life.”

Samples from the premium line. (base price $59-$79 per order, does not include shipping, tax (in CA only), and $5 service fee)

The site says that women love the service because their significant others are busy, so they appreciate that their men are taking this much effort to send flowers. Plus all women love flowers.

If your significant other signed up for this service, would you love it? Or would it take away from the meaning in some way?

kind of a sexist view of relationships. it indicates that men are just dirty dogs/lazy slobs who can’t be expected to spend time on developing a satisfying relationship, it’s easier to pay someone else.

i think it takes away from the thought… but i wouldn’t mind too much. flowers in general just make me happy. :)

Agree with milka, kind of a sexist view of relationships/the world. And I don’t know about other ladies, but I don’t like getting flowers when my guy has done something wrong. They are meant to be lovely surprises, not get out of jail free cards!

I’m not crazy about this idea either. I’d prefer to get flowers knowing he put some thought into it.

I agree completely. While my fiance has brought flowers home when he’s screwed up, I would much rather have an open and honest conversation about how we can improve things for the future.

Also, the ‘afraid for my life’ option is just disgusting. It plays into this view of the irrational wife who gets angry over every little thing, and suggests that flowers can appease her. If a spouse is afraid for their life I hope they would get out of the situation, not get their abuser flowers.

i could see how this is a great idea for certain men….ones who forget anniversaries, birthdays, special occasions, etc. but yes, i does take away from the special-ness of it. speaking of…..i havent received flowers in a long time. boohoo.

Well they have to make the effort to go to the website right?? Just kidding.

I think it’s a good idea for guys who are really forgetful. We’re assuming you’re in the relationship for all the other wonderful things about him - and can overlook that he forgets important dates, right? Hey, whatever works.

I think the name is probably meant to be funny, as the labels for “levels of panic”. Sadly though, I’m sure there are many men who think flowers CAN fix anything. Sigh.

I think the website does an excellent job of marketing to a large group of people who purchase flowers - men! I like flowers, no matter where they come from or if he scheduled it months ahead of time. He knows they make me happy, so he thought enough to be sure they would be sent to me on special days, as well as regular old days. As far as the way they chose to market their flowers - it does seem sexist. But I’d rather order from them then a website that uses mushy sappy language. I’m just not that kind of girl.

i would rather he signed up & sent them per delivery… instead of random days… the panic button is great :)

I don’t like flowers. They die. Yeah they’re pretty, but at 59.99 plus 20.00 delivery fees they tack on to the bills these days, I’d rather go with my honey, drive thru taco bell (mmmm) and go see a movie.

I think it’s cute, and the arrangements are beautiful! I mean, it’s better than the beer/fruit/candy/flower of the month club- which I am sure loses some of it’s surprise by month 10 or 11 (not that I would have anything against free anything every month, but randomized is even more exciting). And I think the panic button is funny… i guess this is putting me in the minority. On the down side, I do agree fresh flowers delivered are ludicrously overprised when you can pick up a bunch of gerber daisies on the way home in almost any color for about $7.50.

its definitely a humorous service - but i would be more thankful if the flowers were chosen by my best-buddy himself. AND - how in the world is a guy supposed to react when his gf/fiance/wife receives a bouquet randomly? just imagine!:

Lady: “Aww honey! You shouldn’t have!!”
Guy: “Yeah..I’m glad you like them~”
Lady: “How did you think of getting me tulips??”
Guy: “B/c I’m great like that!”

— a bit shady, no?
