Luggage on Your Honeymoon (and Beyond)

September 26th, 2006 @ 12:18 pm by Mrs. Bee

The TSA has updated what you can and can’t bring onto planes:

Travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag.

After clearing security, travelers can now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area on-board aircraft.

At the checkpoint travelers will be asked to remove the zip-top bag of liquids and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

Some airports have implemented a prescreening program where you pay a yearly fee (around $100) and get fingerprinted, your eyeball scanned and a background check. You still have to go through a metal detector and get your bags scanned to get to the gate, but you don’t have to wait in line anymore.

Is that something you’d sign up for? I would.

Personally, I think that sounds obnoxious. It sounds like another way for the wealthiest people to circumnavigate the rules and regulations that the rest of us have to adhere to.

I think queues are one of the few truly egalitarian systems left.

(no offense meant to the people who would use it - I just mean it seems ridiculous that it exists!)

it’d be a useful service for avid travellers. the article says that people who don’t use the service don’t seem to mind it because it means shorter lines for everyone. but yah i definitely understand your point of view.

On my way back from my honeymoon in Costa Rica, I had my brand new MAC lip gloss and mascara (a special Japanese brand my sister brought back for me from Taiwan) taken away. Stupid me for leaving it in my purse instead of checking it in. But they were seriuosly small tubes. I think the screening lady just wanted it for herself. I left them in my purse on the way TO Costa Rica too without getting them confiscated…airport security is so iffy.

TSA is a joke. Josephine’s case is one of many examples. My travel fairly often and my husband travels practically every week. Neither of us would let those TSA monkeys have that much information on us.

This is not correct. Each airport has its own policy so beware. Just came back from New Orleans, and they took any liquid toiletries we had.

Most of us put it on our checked luggage so didn’t have any issue, but my brother who was allowed to bring it in his carryon from Atlanta had his stuff confiscated at the screening area.

Also all the vendors in the airport would not allow you to buy bottles of beverages but would require you to pour them out into a cup and carry the cup around.
