Bridal Shower Games Round 1

Entry #1 - Jasmine

Hi Bee,

I wanted to submit my apron shower game to the contest.

Since I am quite domestically challenged, the girls made this apron for me with all kinds of cooking related objects. I wore the apron and stood in front of the group for 30 seconds then left. Everyone had to try to remember what tools were on the apron. The winner won a prize, and I got to keep the apron and everything attached to it. I’m not sure if you can read what’s written on the apron, but it says “Born to shop but forced to cook!” It was too cute!

This is my favorite shower game because you get to meet the other guests. Basically I walked into my friend’s shower and her sister gave everyone a safety pin and instructed us to pin it someplace visible on our clothing. The rules are (1)do NOT cross your legs-this is difficult when you’re a girl and in a skirt/dress (2) if you see someone cross their legs you walk up to them, call them on it and ask them for their pin (3) one with the most pins at the end wins.

This went on for the most of the party and people from across the room would see someone crossing their legs and almost run all the way over to claim the leg-crosser’s pin. At one point it became a pretty heated competition between 3 ladies (1 younger and 2 older-Aunts of the bride). In the end one of the Aunts won.

Entry #3 - Tina

One game I set up for my sister-in-law’s shower was called Race for the Ring… I bought several packs of girls’ party favor plastic rings in all different colors and hid them all around the rooms we were holding the shower in. I also bought a pack of these mega-huge plastic diamond rings (the “diamond” was the size of a golf ball, and it sparkled!).

As guests arrived, they were let loose to find rings and place them on their fingers. The mega diamonds were worth 5 rings each, and the girl with the most rings at the end was the winner. Imagine around 20 women in their mid to late 20s running all around the room, fighting for rings, screaming “there’s a big one!” and everyone flocking to the hiding place… it was hilarious!

We did one similar to the apron, but everything was on a tray. The host made them memorize the tray. I snuck out of the room and she asked them to write down everything I was wearing instead!!!! It was a trick!!

Wasn’t there another entry about a game where the bride had to guess which guests brought which underwear? That game was played at my friend’s shower & it was hilarious.

I like the apron/tools one the best because at least it relates to the shower & gifts, which is fun, and it isn’t pulling off any traditional ladylike rules. What would have also been a fun non-cook twist would be to get some slightly obscure cook’s tools, and everyone has to guess what the tool’s real purpose is — a total non-chef may not be able to ID a cherry pitter or a chocolate dipper or something… could make for funny guesses!

I don’t mean to offend, but I really can’t stand the 3rd one. My girlfriends (those who are married and those who are rather happily single) would so not be keen on scouting out diamond rings. We’re all pretty independant women, and the married ones surprised ourselves a bit by happening to fall in love earlier — we anticipated being single, successful, and fabulous considerably longer. There was definately never any hunting for diamonds going on.

haha - JG’s idea about matching underwear sounds funny~ i enjoy q&a’s with the groom - usually pre-recorded(via tape/dvd)…and people are expected to guess his answer and the host refers back to the videotaped response..etc

a– I’m sorry that you were offended by my game. I want to assure you that the rings were all funky, brightly colored plastic toy rings featuring animals and flowers. The five “diamond” rings were just comical and ended up being the most sought-after rings because they were just so huge and funny. My intent was to celebrate the engagement/marriage of my sister-in-law, not to imply that everyone should be looking to get engaged. In fact, at the time, I was far far far from engaged. And I do consider myself an independent woman. I guess some people are just offended by certain things– for instance, I would have never planned any lingere games because it may have offended the bride’s mom.

That being said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I’m glad to say that everyone at the shower seemed to enjoy the game. I wish I had taken pictures of all the girls with rings stacked all the way up all of their fingers!
