ELF Cosmetics

September 28th, 2006 @ 8:31 am by Mrs. Bee

Several readers have forwarded me an email that says Bloomingdales has started a new cosmetics line called ELF (Eyes, Lips, Face), and they’re selling every product for $1 for a limited time only.

I did a little digging and found out that ELF has actually been around since last year, and was founded by Scott Borba - the man behind the Hard Candy and Neutrogena Men lines. There’s even a disclaimer on the ELF website that says it “is an independent company not affiliated with Bloomingdales or any other department store or national chain.” Must have been one of those pesky internet rumors that got started somehow.

Anyway, ELF’s products are all actually $1 all the time! Eye shadows, lip gloss, mascara, tools, everything! Our readers suggested they’d make great bridesmaids gifts and shower favors. I’ve seen mixed reviews online, but most agree that their brushes are very nice for the price!

The ELF website also has a great looks section where they list the how to and the products needed to create popular looks like the “smokey eye” or “perfect brows” or “fresh face.” At $1 a pop, I’d try the line to experiment with new colors.

Have you tried the ELF line? What do you think?

I heard about ELF last year and bought alot of their products. Lets just say you get what you pay for. The products are okay, but I rather spend some more money and get better quality makeup. The lipglosses are pretty good.

i think e.l.f. is awesome. i bought their senior set and i love it! i haven’t tried everything yet, but for the price you can’t beat it. the only thing i have a problem with is their mascara. don’t get it! it really sucks.

Do you happen to know if they test on animals? I’m selective and cautious when I buy all my make-up. And a $1 is a great deal I’d like to try!

I tried a lip balm and a face shimmer product that smells like oranges. They were OK. $1 is a good deal but the sizes of these things are kind of like trial/sample sizes. I must admit though they will make cute gifts!

It’s been said before, but with the e.l.f products, you definitely get what you pay for. I did however, really like the lip glosses.

For $1 a pop, I kinda went a little bisserk and bought about $27 worth of items. Funny you mention Elf because I just received my items in the mail just a couple days ago and can’t wait to try.

I have read on Makeupalley.com that they sold these products at Target. If anyone is looking for them :)

i tried these products about a year back when they first came on the market, and you do get what you pay for. i tried three items:
1. eyeliner - i’m not picky about this, and the basic black pencil is great, but a little smudgy.
2. lip gloss - not bad, but it has a strange, chemical “aftertaste.”
3. concealer - a nice, light and liquid concealer, but not the right kind for my bad skin :(. it’s great if you need natural, light coverage.

I ordered some things online since it was so cheap and i recieved an email confirming my transaction after. HOWEVER, its been a week and i haven’t recieved a email sayin it was shipped, and the MY ACCOUNT on their website isn’t working anymore. so i don’t really know what to think anymore, i hope this is not a scam to get my cc!!

You definitely get what you pay for. I actually liked their waterproof mascara. But the eyeshadows, IMO, are terrible. They have HUGE pieces of glitter in them, not subtle at all. Not good for contact wearers, as they can get stuck in your eye.

ELF is NOT affiliated with Blomingdales. This has been going around the knot and other locations for several weeks now. Nothing on Blomie’s website mentions ELF and nothing on ELF mentions Bloomie’s. It is regular drug store makeup.

This comes directly from Bloomingdale’s website:

Sorry, we did not find any results for elf.

FRAUD ALERT!

Some of our customers have received emails regarding the eyeslipsface.com website. We want you to know that Bloomingdale’s and Bloomingdale’s by Mail are in no way affiliated with http://www.eyeslipface.com or the e.l.f product line, nor with any email regarding the website or product line, and we do not sell e.l.f. products.

I had heard about E.L.F from a gf a week or so ago and then came across this. I was so excited too at the thought of cheap cosmetics. Boo hoo!

I ordered from them over a year ago and pretty disappointed in their products. Probably some of the worst makeup I’ve ever tried - just a slight step above the “wet and wild” crap you get in drugstores. Anyway I’ve noticed E.L.F. in Target since at least last year, so save money on shipping.

I bought ELF’s make up bags, Plumping Lip Glazes, Lash & Brow Clear Mascara, and Brushes as Bridal Shower Favor. I haven’t received the items yet, but my friend who placed a order a week before me already got her stuff, and she loves it.

not related:

I wanted to share some information with you about the company you mentioned in September: E.L.F

It seems there have been several complaints about fraud and items never being received. Just thought you might post that with your post since most women, like myself, would jump at the idea of $1 makeup.

I have bought many things from E.L.F. and have always received my orders. I also have several co-workers who purchase from their website regularly and they have never had a problem receiving their products, either. As for quality, well, you -do- get what you pay for.

How very disappointed with the experience I had with e.l.f. Not only did the order come significantly later than estimated, but it was incomplete. How is it possible that the order, when placed, was accurate (showing items out of stock at that point — none of those were chosen) and then when it came to fulfillment, suddenly they were no available. PLUS, they were the ONLY Iitems I was interested in anyhow!!! Finally, it does not appear the acocunting was accuarate, as I did not recieve 2 items but only $1 was taken off. This is no way to run a business. I have been tracking the ’scam’, and it looks like they are racking up quite a bad reputation about how they handle customers — only in it for the buck. I am so disappointed that I did not receive the head’s up that my order would have been incomplete - I would have canceled my order then and there. But maybe that was their plan in the first place — to make returnd onconvenient. Cannot get a refund once the order has been shipped. Yuck. Puts a bad mark on e-commerce. Oh, yes…and the email spam…that you very much…I don’t get enough these days!!! Horrible horrible customer focus.

I have never had an allergic reaction until last week, right after I had received my first e.l.f. order and tried their cosmetics. I started noticing my lips and tongue were tingling and swelling. Think I’m going to stop using this stuff for awhile and see if there’s any link.
