A Long Journey Down the Aisle

p12.jpg

Those of you who have been following me on this journey since day one know how indecisive my fiance and I have been on picking vendors/sites and sticking to one. silly3.gif I’m just a very indecisive person sometimes - I second guess my choices/vendors and have to go back and forth and weigh the pros and cons.

UGGGGGGHHH!!!! It’s so frustrating!

The only reason we have a wedding venue now is because my fiance and I got tired of looking, and the only thing we knew for sure was that we wanted an outdoor ceremony. After much bickering with my parents about how “it will be too hot” outside to have a reception outside as well, I gave in. I finally found a place that I had initially dismissed that was perfect.

In the beginning, I was so picky:

  • no buffet
  • has to be something/somewhere not many ppl go/do weddings there
  • no hotel ballrooms
  • letterpressed invitations

p22.jpg
(Dauphinepress)

  • nobody can come if I don’t know them and like them personally silly3.gif
  • no open bar
  • 6 bridesmaids and 2 flower girls and 3 ring bearers

Now:

  • we’re having buffet style at the American reception
  • premium open bar

p32.jpg

  • my parents can invite anyone they want to our “traditional Vietnamese” reception of 300-400 guests
  • they can have their 2 language invites (you know, the ones with the couple kissing on front and with glittery red font - LOL - you Asian brides will probably know what I’m talking about)

Ok, well they won’t be as hideous as these, but you get the idea.

  • we’re having 2 sets of invitations
  • 2 bridesmaids and 3 junior bridesmaids (my little cousins) 1 flower girl, 2 ring bearers

Funny how things change. Even though it was difficult, over time, I seem to care less about the little things and just go with the flow.

I’m much happier now happy.gif… and so is my fiance - haha.

How sweet! I love how our ideas, our likes and dislikes change over time. I love going back and reading my first entries on our wedding planning website–how adamant I was about things, and how many of those things have changed completely!

I feel your pain! I am so indecisive too! Mr. Lily is very decisive though so it drives him bonkers!

It’s difficult esp if you’re a perfectionist, but I guess it’s just too stressful when things doesn’t go your way. I learn to let go of little things =) Good luck wedding planning Miss Plum and welcome to weddingbee!

i’m in the same boat as you! initially, i wanted only one reception and it had to be american-style. now i’m fine with doing a quick korean reception for parents’ friends while my friends head to my other venue for cocktail hour. i also said no buffet, but now i’m doing buffet and stations. for invitations, i was going to have them letterpressed too but now I”m gonna DIY…etc etc

I’ve had the same experience as you — really set on certain things at the beginning, but becoming more “go with the flow” as time goes on. You’re not going to make a bad choice — remember, your wedding is going to be AWESOME b/c it’s starting you and your Mr.!

Also, side note: I think you start to feel better about things (even if they’re not your first/perfect choice) once you actually make a decision about something. I’ve definitely found this to be the case…it’s nice to have 1 or 2 things figured out (like date, or reception venue, etc.).

hey, man…. those vietnamese invitations don’t look so bad. it’s the korean ones that are all white with some pearly dove and rose or pearly bride and groom that look hideous. and the invitation info is printed with some 400 dpi printer. sometimes when i get those in the mail, i feel like the couple owes me a different invitation. that’s right, they OWE ME an invitation that’s pretty, colorful, letterpressed and chic. or maybe a really good bar at the reception to drown my invitation disappointment away.

i hope i get to be more go with the flow… i’m so nitpicky!

ohhh! are you going to have a vietnamese ao dai? my friend just had her wedding and changed into a stunning aqua colored ao dai for cake cutting and the rest of the reception. her bridesmaids’ dresses were really modern and gorgeous vietnamese dresses (silk flowy pants with long top).

i honestly think it’s the bad generic invites that are bad. i like the modern asian invites a lot!

i share your pain in the compromising between what each person (me, fi, parents) want.
