In today’s hive:

  • ncmz is looking for reasonably priced return labels that can be personalized.
  • katiey has a friend who’s looking for a memorable gift to give her fiance on their wedding day. They’ve set a price limit of $75 and she’d like to give something useful or creative. Any suggestions?
  • D is looking for unique gold necklaces between $60-$150 to give as bridesmaids gifts.

I have a friend who is looking for a memorable but not too expensive gift to give her fiance on their wedding day. They’ve set a price limit of $75. She’d like to give something useful or creative. Any hints?

I also wonder how much most couples spend on the gift exchange or how many participate in the tradition at all.

ncmz - I am all about http://staples.marktheworld.com (Staples’ customization site)! We got a return address stamp for $11.99 (I think?) that was highly customizable and worked great! They have like 4 different ink colors, tons of fonts, up to 5 lines or more with different sizes - and best of all you can upload ANY image (monogram, we did the double happiness symbol, flower, whatever you randomly like) to be stamped on there! We were very pleased with ours - I’ll post pics soon!

We’ve given each other $100. He bought me a White Coach Clutch (for wedding day… so thoughtful!) and I’m buying him a pair of shoes that he’s been dying for (he actually asked for them) we are so not traditional anyways!

I was going to give my bridesmaids silver necklaces either from Tiffany’s or Small Things Designs, but my sister has expressed an interest in wearing gold shoes - she said she thinks “Gold shoes are really cool” and has always wanted a pair. Anyway, it’s such a small thing I didn’t say a word about accessorizing with silver, as was my original plan. So, now I’m on the hunt for some *affordable* gold jewelry. Any suggestions for necklaces that are unique, gold and won’t break the bank? I’m looking to spend between $60 - $150 per necklace.

ncmz - I ordered the desk embosser and return address plate from paper-source.com. It doesn’t seem the more reasonable in price, but if you’re going to use it for everything from save the dates, to invites, and thank you cards, this is great! I’m sure you can even use it for your reply cards. It was $71 including shipping, but it’s something I plan on using for EVERYTHING we’re mailing out, including non-wedding things.

D - I like the pieces at Juniper Designs (http://www.juniper-designs.net/), especially the Pandora’s Box and Calliope lines.

turtle,

I was thinking of doing this, does it come out as well as it looks on their site? is it hard?

i ordered a return address embosser through williams-sonoma. i can change out the plates to “library of” and initials, which i can use on books and other stationery.

it works best on heavy paper and looks great on vellum. i like to “practice” on catalogs and other papers hee hee hee!

Katiey-

I bought customized cenverse sneakers off the converse.com website for both my fiance and myself that I plan to give him after the ceremony so we can dance out butts off during the reception without killing our feet. Mine are white high tops with pink stiching and lining (pink is the accent color on my dress) and his are Black low tops with all black details to go with his suit. The best Part? the embroidered accent. Mine says “Mrs. G.” and his says “Mr G.” we’ll probably color in the “Mr. G.” on his with a sharpie after the event. I was so excited when they arrived, it is one of the main little things I am looking forward to at the wedding!… oh- and they are under $75.

Hi D–

If you live in the city there is a really cool young jewelry designers store on bleeker between broadway and lafayette. it is called “Edge”. here is the website..http://www.edgeny.com/.
you should check it out. i’ve bought some really great yellow gold jewelry and the prices are affordable. Since there are so many designers sharing that space you can get a really great a variety of choices that. everything is handmade and you can talk with the people who actually MAKE each piece– so if you want something customized they can totally do it!

go check it out!
