Open Question: Winter Centerpieces

September 29th, 2006 @ 10:07 am by Open Question

Dear Bees-

I need some ideas for centerpieces. I am having a winter wedding in Colorado on December 2nd of this year. My reception is in an art gallery that used to be an old train station-the room is brick and wood and quite dark.

My original centerpieces were going to be tall white pillar candles and a 24 inch ring of greens, pinecones, pepper berries etc… We were also going to add some red votives around the tables as well.

I am now starting to have some second thoughts - I don’t want a big flower arrangement but I would like maybe something with some height-or not! As this wedding gets closer, my mind has turned totally to mush when it comes to making decisions.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

How about pure white low floral centerpeices. Its wouldn’t be as christmas-y and would like nice against the dark room.

My wedding’s December 30th and I really liked the suggestion I saw on a website. You take tall glass bowls or vase and fill them with ornaments and christmas lights. You can find cheap glass ornaments in all kinds of colors and shapes at Wal-Mart in a couple weeks I’m sure.

I really like clear tall round or rectangular shape vases filled with water, put your favorite flowers in there, add your color theme pebbles and a big flowing candle or a few little ones on top =) Good luck!

Did you see Miss Ladybugs candles wrapped in decorative papers? They were b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! I think last winter’s Martha mag had a how-to on these. Several of them at different heights with ribbon look so nice together!

You could take a tall hurricane vase and fill it with the pinecones and holly or cranberries (for some color) and surround the base with 5 small white candles. Eucalyptus would also look beautiful, and you can get it in a silvery color. And cranberries alone add some great color- float them in water or fill a vase of flowers with them.

Or for a bigger centerpiece, use thin branches and hang white candles off them and snowflake ornaments. I saw a picture of the candles hanging from branches and it was beautiful.

If it’s dark in the room then I suggest incorporating candles, mirrors, and a light color, like white. White poinsettias would be affordable and very wintery.

I think winter weddings are so fun - draw up a list of your favorite winter associations and see if you can incorporate them into your wedding! :)

I agree with Emily & Miss Violet - tall clear vases filled with ornaments. My friend had something like that on her coffee table (using different-sized shiny silver ball ornaments) & I thought it looked so pretty!

For our company holiday dinner last year, I made some neat centerpieces with cranberries. Most of the people at the party were jewish, so it was important the the decorations look festive and wintery, but not christmasy.

I don’t have any photos of the centerpieces, but basically I bought silver napkins from crate and barrel as the “base”, and used a different size and shape clear vase for each table. Next I arranged some long branches that were decorated with glitter/clear beads (you should be able to find these at stores like crate and barrel and pottery barn closer to the holidays), then I filled the vases with cranberries. Very important to put the branches in FIRST, then the cranberries, otherwise you will have mushed cranberries at the bottom - not a good look. Then I sprinkled more cranberries around the base of the vase on the table, and put a bunch of votives around the vase. It looked very simple, elegant, festive, and fun.

In case you can’t imagine what I described, here are some websites I used as inspiration.

Good luck!

Also, http://www.theknot.com has tons of galleries of photos. You can sort by centerpiece, by color, by numerous other subjects. There is a winter search function as well as by color.

I think a large glass with white candle and x-mas berries instead of colored glass would be really pretty

HI, I need some advice for my centerpieces. I have road vases - similiar to (page 2 - seaside) http://weddings.theknot.com/gallery/gallery_results.aspx?gallery=27

and for flowers I have boquets of stephanotis flowers (fake) I was hoping to integrate these somehow.

The wedding is in April and the colors are based on my finances tarton colours - burgandy, silver and green. I like the idea of possibly adding some cranberries for color and am open to suggestions. Please help!

Thanks!

I think.. a tall crystal vase with branches, pinecone, silver branches, and fake snow on it!! The dark brown branches look very natural. Silver will give it some–sparkle!! Etc!!
