“I don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day.”

Oh, Linda Evangelista, you sure knew what time it was. Taking engagement photos modeling is *tough* work, sister! I get it. That’s because last Thursday Mr. Daisy and I traipsed around the city for our engagement shoot, smiling and being casual and relaxed for hours on end. Try being casual and relaxed on cue. It’s not easy! I much more fully understand what Tyra goes through trying to school those bitches on America’s Next Top Model. For reals.
Anyway, morning of the shoot I a) worked out with my Bridal Boot Camp trainer Matt Hayes. Despite my knee injury, he has found alternative ways to torture help me workout; b) met my mom at Jimmy Choo to go over bridal footwear options, then; c) headed to Paul LeBrecque for a much needed haircut with my hair guy Adolfo (I didn’t want “styling” per se, just neat hair for the pics).
After my stint at the TRESemmƒ hair salon I headed down to the L’Oreal makeup room Laura Nadeau for makeup. (As previously posted, I am using Laura–also Mrs. Firefly’s makeup artist!–for my wedding). I asked for my makeup to be a bit lighter than the wedding look on which we’d decided, because I didn’t want to look too made up for our various settings* (in Washington Square Park and random streets).
Then I raced home (FYI, finding a cab on West Street in the afternoon is *not* fun), threw on my outfit (I aimed for a “back to school” look for some reason I still haven’t quite figured out) and Mr. Daisy and I met Lilian Haidar, our photographer, at the arch at Washington Square Park. Then it was go time. Let’s just say that I’m not what one would call a “natural” in front of the camera…

Then I changed in the street (sleepaway camp taught me lots about how to do this modestly) and the photos continued…

There’s like a gazillion 200 or so others, but I haven’t even really finished going through them. I was definitely happy with what the day brought but regret (a little) not listening to Lilian’s suggestion of shooting on the Brooklyn Bridge. I’m basically pretty lazy and didn’t want to schlep there, but I think it would have meant some really amazing shots. Oh, well! when we renew our vows in five years (11/11/11 just calls out for an occasion, no?) we’ll be sure not to miss the bridge…
I think the session really helped us to become more relaxed in front of the camera and more comfortable around Lilian (not that that’s a stretch since she’s basically so fun, friendly and warm that you really don’t have a choice but to be comfortable in her presence). I am definitely going to practice my poses for wedding day portraits. And also pray for no wind:

* as we walked the streets, i didn’t want to look like i actually *walked* the streets. for money.
