About Mrs. Bluebell

I just came across this lovely article about a bride who was kidnapped by her parents so that she would miss her own wedding!!! My first thought was, damn, they’re crazy! But then I started thinking…how far would you go if you really opposed the wedding of a close family member or friend? I mean, hopefully none of us would resort to kidnapping, but at what point is it okay to say something if you object to a wedding? How would you react if someone close to you said they were not behind your choice for whatever reason?

Also: I would like to take a moment to note HOW GLAD I am that my parents love Mr. Bluebell! :)

Well, I was so opposed to a friend’s wedding I guess it showed. So I got kicked off the bridal party. And yes, I am ashamed, and yes, I do wish it never happened. :)

Ha ha. My fiance sent me that article first thing this morning! He warned me to be leery of last minute shopping trips with mom and dad.

Seriously though, some people are a little crazy. It reminds me of that couple that Maine couple who kidnapped their daughter to force her into getting an abortion in NY.

its weird to me that she would want her parents put in jail though…by filing the suit the parents can face up to 15 years in jail. the bride would have the heart to see that happen? but then, i don’t know the full story and i can’t relate bc i’m really close to my parents and their opinion definitely matters in the first place. what an odd story.

i read that too. that’s just crazy. in the article - they said that they wouldnt review the contents of their conversation in the car ride. strange.

im amazed the girl didnt try to run off or try to escape her parents … they seemed to have dealt with it in their own “calm” way.

When it’s a federal crime (which kidnapping is) I don’t think the daughter would be the one pressing charges and doesn’t have any say as to whether or not they are brought to trial. Since the fiance called the police when she went missing it’s probably out of the family’s hands. What a shame - of course I’m SO curious about the “why”!!!

I think there’s definitely more to this than they’re reporting; maybe the parents have a history of abusive and/or extremely controlling behavior with their daughter and this is another example of it. When i first read the article, I didn’t think it was the act of concerned parents…it seemed like the crazy act of parents who would do anything to keep their kid under their power. Thanks goodness she got back safely and was able to marry her fiance!
