More DIY Goodness - Bridesmaid Cards!

October 4th, 2006 @ 11:29 am by Mrs. Bluebell

In my recent frenzy of card-stamping for our Save the Dates, I also decided to make some cards officially asking my Maid of Honor and Honorary Bridesmaids to take part in the wedding!

First, I got some lovely Strathmore Deckle Edge Creative Cards (from Pearl Paint) with a blue deckle edge (& matching envelopes!), then I stamped a blue flower corner and a little drawing of a bride in Memories Colonial blue and sepia inks, respectively (all four from addictedtorubberstamps). Then, for lack of a pretty pen or marker, and because I was annoyed I’d put it off so long already…I scrounged around and found a nice brown Prismacolor colored pencil that matched well enough and just hand wrote on the cards. I had already had long talks with each of my girls about how they were going to be “something bridesmaid-like” so I figured this was fancy enough. :)

Sigh, I love the Strathmore Creative Cards SO MUCH that I’m using them for just about everything I can think of now! The paper is such gorgeous thick quality with this texture that makes me melt, and the deckle edge (they come in a ton of colors!) is just about the happiest thing ever. The outsides of the envelopes have the matching deckle edge too, so before you even open it, you can tell it’s going to be pretty!

The inside of each card was a little personal letter about how much I love each of them, and an official asking of the question.

How did you ask your bridesmaids to take part in your wedding? Do you think I’m going overboard with the DIY card stamping? ;)

Those are so cute!

I have one BM, and I just asked her over the phone–I sort of wish I’d done it in a more special way, in retrospect. Oh well.

So cute! I love the stamp of the bride…it looks so vintage and sweet.
My mom, a paper wiz, is creating my BM/MOH cards right now. I can’t wait until they receive them. It’s been hard not to just spit it out and ask them!

Thanks! :-)

And you can still do it, Miss Blueberry!!! They all knew they were going to be (some just didn’t know the term that was decided on in the end but most did) and thought it was settled! I just felt like sending them random cards to make it Official anyway ;-)

Oh my gosh you’re right, Miss Bluebell! That makes me feel so much better :-)

How cute! Love the bride stamp

I wrote a poem in a card and then wrote a lil note to each of them telling them how special they were to me and how I wanted to have them in my wedding!

Adorable!! I love the bride stamp, too. I always see things like those and think that I’ll never find a chance to use it. :( I have just my MOH, my fiance’s sister. I sent her a card to ask her.

i don’t understand why the words “overboard” and “diy’ are so close together — there is no such thing! :)

that is so lovely; you have such good friends and cherish them in their own way!

cute cards! they came out really well. is the bride on the stamp one legged?

Miss Bluebell says:

C - hahaha she totally is!!! I never noticed that before! I guess she’s one armed too but that’s more feasible that it’s just hidden. Also - now that I’m thinking about it she totally looks like she’s going to fall over, doesn’t she?? She needs another leg to keep her balance!!

And thanks to everyone else!!! I am constantly torn between pleased how things like this turned out, and the desire to make everything fancier and more elaborate and expensive and time consuming, so it’s great when people appreciate the simple/cheap versions of things! :-)

I have a Maid of Honor and 4 bridesmaids. I went to a paint-your-own-ceramic place and purchased 5 4″x4″ square tiles. I then spent about 3 hours tracing a little bridesmaid’s dress in my colors on it, along with the message “Will you be my bridesmaid?” After they were fired and completely done, I either hand-delivered or mailed them to each of my girls, without a note, and waited for their response! Everyone LOVED them! And I even made an extra one for myself as a keepsake!

I think everything else was cute except the handwriting. I thought it was a rough draft card at first. You should’ve put a little more thought into how it was going to be written. It doesn’t match the rest of the card at all.

Miss Bluebell says:

Shellby - I think this might be a case of “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” As I said before, I had already discussed with each of them so there really wasn’t a need for a card in the first place and I just wanted to get them out. The point was the letter inside and the sentiment, not the handwriting. I wouldn’t have sent these out as a formal card or an invitation, but for this purpose they suited me fine. If you wouldn’t do it yourself - then feel free not to.

Hi Miss Bluebell!

The ‘Honorary Bridesmaid’ cards are beautiful. As one of your Hororary Bridesmaids, it means a lot to me that you took the trouble to send them… I love getting mail! The card is lovely, and I am excited for June!

It was constructive criticism. I’m sorry if it hurt your feelings.
