Reader Buzz: Beauty & Fitness

October 4th, 2006 @ 12:46 pm by Reader Buzz

Most brides embark upon some sort of beauty and fitness rituals leading up to the big day. I took kickboxing classes with a personal trainer, colored my hair twice two weeks before the wedding (because the first time I looked like an Asian gangsta bitch), did Crest White Strips (half-heartedly), and got facials.

Whether it’s as simple as growing out your hair or as extreme as plastic surgery, what beauty and fitness rituals are you doing for your wedding day?

I need to start working out soon–7 months to go!

I’ve been using Crest whitestrips off and on for a while now, but I’m going to start using them regularly pretty soon here, then give it a break until a couple weeks before the wedding and do them again.

I’m also going to color my hair a week before the wedding–because I’m a redhead my color never looks right after I get it done; it takes about a week to settle down into the shade I like.

So basically…nothing all that different except for working out.

We’re still a year out, so I have some time. However, we decided since it’s now October and our wedding is a year away, we’re going to eat healthy and try to get some exercise - which is a feat after 10 hour workdays (me) and law school (for him). Other than that, I’ve grown my hair really long and would like to get it colored for the day of - and yes, I will use white-strips on my teeth.

9 days in counting and I’ve done…

Crest Whitestrips
Yoga in am. Gym for cardio/weights pm
Detox Diet- cant eat anything with a head, processed, come out of a box or can, wheat or sugar
Tanning salon
Hair every other week and yes… getting white girl hair extension- to cover my back tattoo though!

All I’m really doing is growing my hair out. I’m working out, too, but I was training for a marathon even before we got engaged… that worked out well, huh? :) I’m just adding a few more crunches to my daily routine.

I’ve been growing out my hair for over a year….although I got it cut not too long ago out of sheer boredom and I’m so regretting it. *sniff*

I’ve also been on the SlimFast diet to loose those pesky 5lbs and I joined the gym but haven’t been going as much as I should.

And I’ve been trying so hard not to bite my figures, but it’s one of those stress reliever things and I’m going nuts.

I’m not officially engaged yet, but thats because we’re saving up for a house next year, so no money for the ring yet. I give that disclaimer because ppl think I’m nuts to be planning before we’re official :P

I’ve got 2 years, but I cut my previously dyed, waist long hair to my shoulder. I want to have natural, pure black hair for my wedding :-) I also started taking vitamins and supplements, and am anal about proper moisterizing.

I started weight watchers a couple of months ago. It was somehthing I needed to do anyway, but getting engaged was the perfect push to really go for it. 15 lbs gone so far.

I will try the white strips and go tanning before the big day. About a month before I will have my hair colored just to cover those pesky grey strands and give myself a day of pampering :)

lost 10 lbs, using whitestrips, scrutinizing tan lines… not too much different. I try to live healthy all the time, not just for one day!

PILATES! Taking private classes on the reformer (the crazy looking torture machine) really improves your posture, I swear I’ve grown an inch, which is huge for someone that’s only 5′1! And trying to stay away from any starchy or white food.

I’m growing my hair out and will evidentually get it dyed back to blonde. I just finished Invisalign, and I’m thrilled with the results. I’ve also joined a gym, and I’m trying to get back on the WW points program (I say as I eat a slick of NY pizza for lunch).

Jane says:

-Highlight my hair 3 weeks before the wedding.

The biggest thing was I saw a dermetologist. Other then that I highlighted my hair a week before the wedding as well as waxed my eyebrows, had a mani and pedi, and used Crest white strips (somewhat half heartedly as well) I also tried to get a better sleep regimine and drank lots of water and cut back on fried foods

I tried Crest Whitestrips about a year out, but they didn’t do much. I told my dentist this (about 4 weeks before the wedding) and he said that for engaged patients, he will do customized bleaching kits as a wedding present! So I got molds taken and went back to get them as well as the bleaching kit. I have sensitive teeth, so I only did them about 8 times in 4 weeks, but I was really pleased with the results. I tried to work out, but it turned into “working out,” meaning, walking from the couch to the kitchen was enough for me!

nat says:

Hitting the gym almost every day. And Lean Cuisine - it’s a much easier way to portion control than my own willpower.

Jamie says:

I’ve been taking advantage of the free wellness center on campus and working out three days a week. I also go swimming most days. As for beauty, I got my hair cut shorter and am growing it out for my big day (in June! yay!)
