Admitting My Love For Branches

October 5th, 2006 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Apple

I’m not sure why I love them so much, but I just think they’re so beautiful. I love the mysterious look of branches even more so than a vase full of flowers. I’ve mentioned to my floral designer extraordinaire that I’d like to incorporate branches into my centerpiece design. I think branches create a beautifully dramatic look with its height and colors.

But it can get really tricky though - you have to measure the size of the branches so it doesn’t look disproportional with the tables. Lighting will also create the drama that I’m hoping for - lots of candles and maybe flowers set around the the branch centerpiece.

Does anyone know what these flowers on the table below are? If it’s cherry blossoms, I’m in big trouble because I think cherry blossom season will be over by my May 27th wedding date. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can create the same look with another kind of branch/flower?

If branches cannot be done, these adorable lamps and beautiful candlestick holders have to be my backup option. ;)

my florist is also using branches for part of the decor. she is taking the chocolate orchids i posted about and actually gluing them on individually to the branches. its going to be gorgeous! maybe you can try that too?

Hi Miss Apple,

I am getting married on May 19th and having my florist do these beautiful white orchids in a high vase which is a nice alternative (same idea) as the cherry blossoms. I got the idea from the Mandarin Oriental NY ad in Towne & Country this month.

How do you attach a pic??

i think branches are gorgeous too!! how expensive are they? and is there another name for it besides “brances” - or will the florist know what i’m talking about?

You could try crystal cherry blossom stems..they’re really pretty but cost $5 each so it quickly adds up.

My cousin got married last weekend and threw a beautiful autumn-themed wedding. I will try and link to a photo of their centerpieces. Dried hydrangeas in a tall vase with maybe a dozen branches coming from the vase, too. It looked beautiful throughout the whole room.

(Sorry if this link doesn’t work)

You can also use curly willow. That’s in season all year. Put them in a tall trumpet vase - and you can hang votive candles (small ones!) or attach flowers to the branches like small cymbidium orchids or dendrobium orchids.

the branches in the photo look to be Dogwoods. Sorry, but they bloom in the early spring although later than Cherry and the flowers do hang on longer so you might be able to find some in bloom for your wedding. I’m trying to think of trees that flower around Memorial Day (I’m an arborist) and all I can come up with are;

Magnolia - all shades from light pink to yellowish
Ladburnum - or Golden Rain tree - yellow (spectacular if you ask me)
Chionanthus - White Fringe Tree
Styrax japonicum - white Snowbell

then there are some shubs you might think about also.

Fothergilla - white bottlebrush flowers
Buddleia - all different colors although have a tendency to look ragged so take the advice of your florist!
Amelachier - white flowers

good luck!

I love branches too! Here are some of my favorites:

1) Henry Lauder’s Walking Stick (beautiful curly branches!)

2) Pussy willows

3) Eucalyptus

If May 27 is too late for cherry blossoms, you could probably go for apple or plum blossoms. Or branches from imitation orange shrubs, which smell delicious!

Ooh! I just remembered this necklace! While it isn’t exactly wedding-related, if you love branches, take a look at this:

Hey. I just got married on September 22 and we used branches for our table centerpieces. My florist used plain branches then added white orchids to the tips. It was quite beautiful and very simple to do. The stem of the orchid fit right onto the tips of the branches.

i am having a cherry blossom themed wedding. look at all these awesome ideas:

http://www.gnyc.net/senseless/2006/08/15/cherry-blossoms/

I love the first wedding profiled.

Micheals (craft store) has tons of fake cherry blossom stems (white and pink) for about $1.50 a stem. It’s a great deal, so that is where I am going to get mine from.

I’m so glad I found this site–I’m getting married June 21 and I was really hoping to have something branch-like as our centerpieces (and as our Wish Tree, to hand notes on instead of sign a guest book). So cherry blossoms are definitely out unless I use fake ones? How much do the orchids and curly willow centerpieces go for? Any help would be *greatly* appreciated! thanks!

June 28th here, so Im in the same boat at Julie. I need something that would have blooms at the end of June. Sounds like it might be impossible, but I still have hopes. Id even take soemthing that has small leaves. Anything but bare branches, I want to keep the feel of spring/summer. And I have to do this all on a budget, so anyone know where we can purchase branches/trees?
